KP Report -- UNCC 49ers -- Thursday 7 pm ACC Network

Lets play some good teams before we start crowning anyone.

Our non-conf strength of schedule is #334 in the country as of now. There are really no takeaways playing such terrible teams.

Losing to these shitty teams provides a pretty solid takeaway.. we are not good.

Just recognizing talent when I see it. Manning can’t coach but Mucius was a good get in recruiting by Childress.

It was a win and had moments that could be construed as decent basketball. Enjoy it while you can. There is some talent. A good coach could develop these players into a decent team by season's end.

Wake did a better job protecting the ball and limiting turnovers than I expected. Wake also did a good job of getting fouled.

Do we think Sarr finally figured out that dunks are supposed to go inside that steel ring, not on it?

Chaundee has had 3 good games in a row which is one of the pieces we need (there are several others as well) to play well as a team. Can Manning do it? Unlikely but there is always hope he is now listening to Childress and Nestor

I thought Wake played well. Give credit when due. First time all year.

Thought the defense was actually decent. UNCC shot poorly but Wake looked like they were actually trying to play D.

We will see if this can carry over.

So that means they'll stall in their development and half of them will transfer. Cool.

The Deacs did play well. For the first time this year, they stomped on an inferior team.

Davidson will be a reasonable test of progress. They are from the same conference and are better than either St. Joe's or Richmond. This is the type of game where the value of coaching and retaining players shows. There is not a single player on Davidson that WF would offer; there is not a single player on WF that Davidson wouldn't love to have; there are no future NBA players on Davidson. Yet, because Davidson has an elite coach, a perpetuating system in place and has had continuity for a decade plus, they are currently a superior basketball program. Seems like a bad matchup for WF, but if WF can beat Davidson in 10 days, fair to say that the program has made some progress.

And this. Except the main takeaway being that if we go .500 with this OOC schedule....then we are really bad.

Right, I meant there are no positive conclusions you can draw playing such terrible competition. Only negative if things go bad (as they have).

Davidson in fact has PG Kellan Grady, projected to be a first round pick and borderline lottery pick in several 2019 mock drafts. He is actually picked higher than Hoard in some mocks. Davidson is going to beat the shit out of us.

Yeah, I missed that Pilch post. Kellan Grady will be the best player on the court and would definitely be wanted at Wake. And the game is at home. If beating the #70 team at home is a sign of "the program has made some progress", woof, we've got some embarrassingly low standards around here. Even Bz beat teams in the 50 - 100 range at home somewhat regularly in his later years. Let's beat a top 50 team on the road and then maybe we can talk.
