Great John Collins Article

Still early, but Collins looking like he'll be a top 3 player from that overhyped 2017 draft.

Averaging 19.1, 10.4 boards, and 2.4 assists. I think the 2.4 assists a game is what surprises me the most.

It is hard to believe people with eyeballs drafted some of those players before Collins. I do not watch much NBA and generally admit ignorance as to NBA potential, but I thought Miami would take him if he dropped that far.

NBA 2017 Draft First Round:

1. Markelle Fultz
2. Lonzo Ball
3. Jayson Tatum
4. Josh Jackson
5. De'Aaron Fox
6. Jonathon Isaac
7. Lauri Markkanen
8. Frank Ntilikina
9. Dennis Smith
10. Zach Collins
11. Malik Monk
12. Luke Kennard
13. Donavan Mitchell
14. Bam Adebayo
15. Justin Jackson
16. Justin Patton
17. DJ Wilson
18. TJ Leaf
19. Collins
20. Harry Giles
21. Terrance Ferguson
22. Jarrett Allen
23. OG Anunoby
24. Tyler Lydon
25. Anzejs Pasecniks
26. Caleb Swanigan
27. Kyle Kuzma
28. Tony Bradley
29. Derek White
30. Josh Hart

Using the NBA Win Shares Metric, the top 10 in that draft is:

1. Jason Tatum
2. Jarrett Allen (realize no one follows the Nets, but he has been excellent; e.g., he had 20 points and 24 boards in last night's win at Houston)
3. JC
4. Bam Adebayo
5. Donovan Mitchell
6. Kyle Kuzma
7. Josh Hart
8. Jordan Bell
9. OG Anunoby
10. Lauri Markkanen

Saw the Mavs are trying to trade DSJ mostly because Luka has taken him over.

I think this draft looked deep because someone like Collins dropped so far.

Shame that Collins and Allen have little chance of making the All-Star game. Allen has been coming on as of late. That block of Lebron put him on the radar. Siakam seems to be getting love for one of those last few spots.

Actually here is one list that has him as a potential candidate.

And because Donovan Mitchell dropped to 13.

I said on another thread that if the Bucks had drafted Collins, he might make the difference between a post-Warriors championship and not.

1. Markelle Fultz --- Terrible; like Ryan Leaf nutty bad
2. Lonzo Ball ---- Good

8. Frank Ntilikina --- BAD
9. Dennis Smith --- super athletic, can't shoot
10. Zach Collins --- Meh, he puts up a few numbers, but pretty much a bust

And then Bell was a no-brainer how the hell did he slip to round 2?

Derrick White should be a very valuable combo guard behind Murray and DeRozan going forward.

Yeah, summer league 2017, the backcourt of Bryn Forbes and Derrick White was really clicking - great chemistry.

With Murray, this year had real promise. I wish the Spurs would have found a way to sign my man Montrezl Harrell as that dude is so efficient.

thankfully we got 70 posts until the spursdonks donked on a thread about JC

Jan. 23
35 pts. 14-16. 29 minutes. Best game of his career so far.

He needs to average 22 and 9.2 through the next 11 games to average 20/10 going into the All-Star break. He’s also shooting 59.1% FG and 37.5% from 3PT.

Pretty amazing he's shooting like that from deep considering he shot 1 3-pointer in his entire Wake career (he missed). That's some serious work in the gym.

Yep. His shot looked pure in his draft workout videos. Even more surprising is that he averages 2.4 ast after only having 24 his entire Wake career (0.4 apg).

He’s so nice on the pick and roll.

Not surprised Collins is shooting it so well. Collins had a nice stroke at Wake, we just played him as a Center so he never played far from the basket. Jump shots can be developed in the league.

I forget which poster said that Hoard would be better than Collins but we gotta find him.
