'19 Special & '20 Congressional Election Thread

Yeah, given that it was a generally red district before Katie Hill was elected, it's not like this district has suddenly rejected liberals after voting for them for decades. They've basically reverted to their norm. Nonetheless, conservatives are all excited that this may indicate some kind of "red wave" is building. The Federalist had an article about it just today. It really indicates nothing, except that Katie Hill resigning opened the way for the district to return to its usual Republican ways, which is probably why her ex-hubby and right-wing bloggers were so eager to release all of those pics of her (with threats to release more unless she resigned).

Yes, that district has been red for decades, but the biggest thing was the lack of turnout that won't be a problem in November.

I guess blackmail works.

I guess. Or perhaps banging the help but deflecting blame by screaming REVENGE PORN!!1! isn't a sound strategy.

Better luck next time, Kates.

She has a bright future and is a rising star in the Dem party.

It can simultaneously be true that it was not a good idea to sleep with a staffer (unethical) and that someone releasing pictures to the public without consent is not a good idea (borderline illegal)

It's also possible to blow the whistle on unethical activity without publishing nudes.

You are truly a pos. Your crazy effing comment about a college coed and now blaming a woman for her ex husband and conservative media leaking private photographs is shameful. I though Americans have the right to privacy. I thought Americans have freedom of speech and expression. I thought Americans had the originalist right to the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. Naw, women, minorities, don't deserve that. Christian white men deserve that and more. Of course we're persecuted by heathens. Maybe there would be a few less heathens if you did not behave this way.

Great interview with SC Dem candidate Jaime Harrison on Jonathan Capehart's podcast.

Article on at least 24 donors who have flipped from Lindsey Graham to Jaime Harrison:
https://www.thestate.com/news/politics-government/election/article242869081.html

Wallace Lightsey, a Greenville attorney, is a self-described “moderate Republican” who has given money over the years to members of both parties. That includes $9,500 to U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, the Republican incumbent up for reelection this November.
But this year, Lightsey is doing something different: he’s donating to Jaime Harrison, Graham’s Democratic opponent.
“I was a big supporter of Lindsey, especially back in the ‘90s,” Lightsey told The State. “I helped raise money for him and I really liked him. I thought he was very bright, very articulate and seemed to be pretty practical.”

Then came President Donald Trump.
“As far as Lindsey’s concerned, with me, it’s all about Trump and Lindsey’s over-the-top support of Trump. I probably wouldn’t have done anything different if he’d just stayed quiet, but his very vocal support of Trump … that really turned me off.”
Lightsey, who said he’s given $750 to Harrison so far, now joins the ranks of Richard Wilkerson, the former president of Michelin North America who last month became the first longtime Graham donor to publicly switch sides to support Harrison.

Vinson, the Furman professor, said the McCain factor was significant.
“The fact that it’s the John McCain stuff that shifted them away from Graham tells me that what they’ve seen, what they’re seeing, from Graham is not just a matter of pragmatism. They are worried about some character issues here.”

Excellent ad from an anti-Graham PAC:

The Lincoln Project is weighing in on Senate races. Here is a good ad against Mitch McConnell.

Anyone know anything about Theresa Greenfield, the Dem that won the Senate primary?

Suck it Steve King

Yep. King loses the Iowa Fourth District GOP primary to fellow Republican Randy Feenstra, 46% to 36%. Whether Feenstra is an improvement is open question, though, as he ran on building the border wall and "securing" our border with Mexico, and supporting gun owner rights and the Second Amendment. The NRA gives him a "A" rating, and his website proclaims that he is a "Pro-Trump Effective Conservative that Delivers Conservative Results." He brags that he was the "key architect of the largest state income tax cut in state history", says that he supports laws that would ban sanctuary cities, and that in Congress he will oppose "Nancy Pelosi and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's reckless open borders policies." He calls himself a conservative Christian who wants to defund Planned Parenthood and pass a law that will establish life as starting at conception. He really doesn't sound all that different from King, except that he's probably a lot more polished and is smart enough to still keep at least some of the quiet parts quiet.

It's encouraging to see Republicans take out their own trash.

Posted this about Greenfield a month ago.

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst only leads by 1 in latest poll.
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/495937-poll-ernst-lead-evaporates-in-iowa-senate-race

The Senate race in Iowa is tightening, according to a new poll that shows Sen. Joni Ernst’s (R-Iowa) lead over her likely Democratic opponent, Theresa Greenfield, narrowing to just 1 point.
The survey from the Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling shows Ernst leading Greenfield, 43 percent to 42 percent. That suggests a significantly closer race than a previous poll conducted by the firm in December that found Ernst ahead of Greenfield by a 6-point margin.

Twitter is blowing up over claims from some gay male escorts that Lindsey Graham has procured their services over the years.

He was just studying the problem of prostitution to see what should be done.

I’m just going to go ahead and say I don’t trust a poll from termlimits.com that claims McGrath would win by 15 points if she stresses that she’s for term limits.

Rex Chapman was just on MSNBC. He gave an impassioned monologue against Rand Paul for stopping the lynching bill and against Mitch McConnell. It was intense and truly felt.
