KP - Report Duke Blue Devils - Tuesday ESPN 7 pm

‎Robin Douglas‎ to Demon Deacon Sports Nation
1 hr ·
Looking forward to tonight's game against Duke.
GO DEACS!

The sunshine brigade still going strong over at Demon Deacon Sports Nation.
Even there there's been some chinks in the armor they were randomly Banning people last year for saying anything negative and now that's pretty much gone

Duke/Clemson observations

Just watched highlights of Duke/Clemson because I honestly haven't watched any of Duke this year. No need to, what with all the ESPN hand holding/virtual high fiving going on.

Also, I hate Duke.

Observations from this game, however:

Zion gets all the coverage, but do you know who actually kept them in the first half against Clemson? (who, by the way, is an good basketball team). The white kid named White. Dude hit like 4 threes. He's automatic.

After watching Wake this year, I realize their offense has issues, clearly. They don't spread the floor. Elite college teams spread the floor on offense and create a lot of space for the drive, the outside shot or the cut to the basket. Wake offensive "sets" are all gummed up. No flow or space at all. Whether this is by design or ineptitude, I don't know. I hope its not by design.

Duke will run a lot of pick and roll tonight.

We may hang around for the first 15 minutes, ala Tennessee. On good teams, when player exhaustion begins to set in a bit, coaching needs to balance out and compensate for the runs another team will make. Alas, this is one of our many weaknesses. It will not be a close game.

I like a good conspiracy theory as much as anyone, but I have a daughter at Duke, so I checked this out. There are no joint undergraduate programs between Duke and NCCU.

There is an inter-institutional agreement between Duke, UNC, NCSU, UNC-G, UNC-C, and NCCU that allows students from one institution to take a limited number of courses at another. Under the agreement, Duke students can take up to one course per semester at one of the other schools if the course is not offered at Duke that semester and is worth one full course credit (four hours).

The widely-held belief is that the NCCU courses are available on a much more extensive basis to Duke athletes. I make no representation as to the accuracy of that belief.

We're +21 in a home basketball game. Have we ever been a bigger home underdog?

Officially 13,000 tickets out for tonight, almost near a sell out.
Over/Under on number of seats filled with blue? I am guessing 9,500.

That's one of the many shames the have resulted from this past decade of Wake Forest basketball. I've got framed pictures of the Joel vs. UNC in 2007 and 2009 and the Joel was filled with rabid Wake fans with just a little baby blue here and there. Now, Duke and UNC almost take over the Joel when they come to town. Ron Wellman has set Wake basketball back so far. A good post Bzzz hire could've gotten it turned around fairly quickly, like Odom did after Staak, but 2 terrible hires in a row take a long time to dig out from.

We were +22.5 vs. defending champs Duke under Bzzzy Bzzz in 2010-11. Otherwise not aware of a larger home line

It must be asked....

What is the record for worst Wake loss at Joel ?

The third game on your list was at Cameron. The one where a freshman Grayson popped off.

( edit: sorry, so 36 points is the nut to crack tonight )

I would say that is indeed in play tonight.

Maybe Manning pulls a [Redacted] and beats Duke to save his job for another year.

Roughly the same spread as UMBC-UVA last year.

Just saying

I did this too. Why? Because I didn’t want to have inevitable Ds or Cs in freshman philosophy and Brit lit as anchors on my transcript.
Lol WFU hasn’t changed much over the years. But there has been some grade inflation, believe it or not. Dean’s list and cum laude were 3.0 in my time at MSD (‘81, ‘84).

The '83 team that appears on the worst loss list twice was actually pretty good. 18-12 and 4th or 5th in the league.
Defense maybe not emphasized so much. Wake also had a 110-104 victory against Duke. There was a shot clock and a short 3-point line.
The 1983 State game was kind of memorable with NC State pulling up and shooting three-pointer after three-pointer with nothing but net without many passes. 130 points is like Loyola Marymount Westhead teams. Then, they won the national championship game 54-52. The Virginia team was Ralph Sampson's senior year.
