The Great Uniter

Clinton wasn’t a progressive candidate. You know that, right? She and Obama were pretty damn centrist.

She was as centrist as she was progressive. Neither of these things were her problem, her problem was 10,000 pounds of baggage, being nearly universally hated, and the perception that she was a snake.

Look at Joe Manchin and tell me that guy doesn't fucking steamroll Trump. That's a centrist candidate. That puts the Democrats in the position to win 2020, 2024, AND 2028.

Biden doesn't do that. If he wins, he's going to be 78 when he takes office. No way American's vote for an 82 year old man in 2024. Democrats have an oppotunity to ride the anti-fascist wave through 2028, and instead they want to scream, "muh socialism" at the top of their lungs. It's like the ultimate avatar of their party; long-term consequences be damned.

So you think Trump has an advantage when the Democrats nominate someone with a shady past who is untrustworthy and/or someone who is an old man? Is it because Trump does both of those better than others?

Biden is all of four years older than Trump. If he wins the nomination (I have no idea who the nominee will be), I don't think Biden's age will matter very much to any voters, as Trump will be 74 in 2020.

It is both shocking and unaurprising that Knight thinks Joe Manchin is the Dems best chance at beating Trump.

Imagine thinking that you fight fascism with Joe Manchin.

I love my father very much, but interacting and conversing with him at 72 makes me wonder why we continually insist on running old as fuck candidates.

This isn't splitting hairs. The difference between being 74-year old incumbent and a 78 year old first-term president should be painfully obvious.

The difference between a senile 74 year old Trump and Bro Biden of any age should be painfully obvious.

So in 2020 you may have a 78-year-old challenger and a 74-year-old incumbent running, and the incumbent is already regarded as a senile loon by vast numbers of people. How is it painfully obvious that the 78-year-old is at a disadvantage? Trump was 72 when he was elected. Are you saying that a six-year difference for a first-termer is really going to be that important to independents and Democrats, when his opponent is Trump? "Oh, Biden is four years older than Trump, so I think I'll have to vote for Trump." LOL.

Something like 1 in 3 people over 80 suffer from some form of dementia. That seems like a risk that should be taken in consideration before we elect someone with a foot in the grave. Biden seems like he is with it, but Beto is the right play.

And Trump isn't a risk? There have been serious arguments that he seems to be suffering from dementia already. I'm not carrying water for Biden, and would prefer a much younger candidate myself, as they typically run much stronger for Democrats, but if Biden is the Dem nominee, I don't think attacks on his age are going to hurt much, given that Trump is nearly that old himself, and doesn't seem to be with it a good deal of the time as it is. If the GOP had a younger candidate it would definitely hurt, but against Trump, not so much.

Republicans love themselves a President who doesn't know what is going on so advisors can run a shadow government and use the President as a puppet.

Yep. Knowing things and actually governing doomed Bush 1.

If Biden is the nominee, he should just refer to Trump as a little boy in the debate. Republicans love belittling immature young folks, so it could be the uniting rhetoric we need.

I'm 72. I too wonder why we run old as fuck candidates. :rulz:

FWIW, James Stockdale was 69 when he ran as VP and the big joke was that he was senile.
