Bill Barr: The Cover-Up General

Neither of you have explained what will change as a result of this. It made news yesterday but it doesn’t seem like something that will move the needle with the Republicans who can do something about it, politicians and voters.

Sometimes people get hung up on some really ridiculous points, just for the sake of being right. I was at a hockey meeting last night, and one parent was complaining about how practices were split unevenly between two locations. It was explained to him that there were certain schedule requirements that could only be met at one location, but he kept arguing. He was told that it was impossible to make an exact split, but they did their best to keep it equitable and it was 60/40 at worst, but he didn't agree. It was mentioned by several people that one location was not available for part of the season, so having all practices at the other location for a time actually helped balance the overall numbers, and he still didn't believe it. Finally, one of the board members told him that after the meeting, they could look at the schedule and check the numbers, which were almost even. This thankfully stopped one person from holding up the entire meeting for everyone else who already understood the point.

Not sure why I felt the need to post this here, but it seemed appropriate.

1) You, despite admitting you have no idea what the attorneys' obligations and rights might be, start off by accusing them of not doing anything of note. If you don't understand, don't accuse.
2) There are things that govern attorney conduct, including attorney-client privilege specifically and the Rules of Professional Conduct more generally. These rules preclude a lawyer from disclosing information but require withdrawal if your client is asking you to do something unethical or illegal.
3) There is exactly nothing these attorneys could do to change the bold. The President was just impeached based upon testimony of people who spoke with him directly and the White House's own written notes that demonstrated he was guilty. Nothing happened. Nothing is going to happen.

You seem to be saying it's not a big deal then.

Again, out of your depth. Lawyers don't make a habit of withdrawing from cases unless their client's stop paying them. Therefore, US Attorneys almost never withdraw as counsel. This is a big deal, measured against how a justice department should operate. It is not a big deal if your measuring stick is whether it will cause the President to be removed from office.

No one thinks this will move the needle much (at all) with his base. However, the judge very well may take these actions in to account when she sentences him. She may very well disregard the new recommendation based on information or concerns that she has about this specific situation.

If she does he will not be able to shut up about and may begin attacking the "terrible socialist judge" or whatever line he comes up with. These lawyers will likely face repercussions as well. As others have pointed out they risk damaging their careers over their principles.

Who holds away over his license? Could he be disbarred?

Sure hope those spineless, feckless pieces-of-shit Republican senators (sans Romney) are feeling good about themselves.

Trump is correct about the DOJ being corrupt. He corrupted it.

So it’s a big deal in legal circles but won’t have any impact in the real world so it won’t address the underlying issues.

What exactly could they have done to move the needle with Republicans who can do something about it? I suspect absolutely nothing will move any Republican’s needle wrt Trump.

Hopefully, at some point, they will speak out. It won't move the needle because nothing will, but it will be the right thing to do.

Shown the way? What have they done besides quit?

I've been out all day so I've only been following it from tweets on this thread. All I've seen is that they resigned. What else did they do?

So how does that change things?

Why? How does what they did make a difference? I’m not a lawyer. I understand it’s a personal sacrifice and will hurt their careers. But how will this help address the obvious corruption?
