The Scoop: Craig's game power spiked last year, when he slugged 20 home runs in 132 games for Double-A Altoona after hitting six homers the previous season in the high Class A Florida State League. This season, Craig has already gone deep 14 times in 45 games, though that looks more like a boost from the new Triple-A baseballs than a change in approach like he showed last season. (BB)

As a Pirates 1st baseman, Craig is blocked by Josh Bell who is having as a good of year of anyone not named Cody Bellinger or Christian Yelich, but if Craig continues to post big AAA numbers, he will get a shot somewhere else if not in Pittsburgh.

Withdrew from school and is transferring for personal reasons. Sorry for missing it during the season.

Had a season-wrap-up interview with Walt today, will have the story up in a couple of hours.

Bryce Jarvis, the Duke starter (8 IP 0 Runs 11 Ks) who beat host West Virginia yesterday, is the son of former Diamond Deac great and MLBer, Kevin Jarvis. Not sure what the recruiting back-story was with Jarvis, but hurts to see a WF legacy crushing it for a rival, especially given WF struggles on the mound this past year. WF is an NCAA Tourney team with Jarvis this year.

Don't know if it was a factor, but Kevin Jarvis played for George Greer, another who Wellman unceremoniously dumped.

Cusick could be a solid Friday night starter next year. Need a 2/3 starter. Wonder if we move Fleming to the rotation.

The A's. The A's area scout for NC, SC and VA is Neil Avent, who played and coached at WF; three of the A's top 10 picks, including #1 and #2 are from those states. He drafted and signed Nate Mondou, Parker Dunshee and now Peluse.

Heading into the season, Peluse looked like he could go in the first 5 rounds. Could be a bargain for the $149K slot value as a 9th rounder.
