Diamond Deacs 2019 (Offseason) | 5 Deacs Drafted

1. It's gameday baby

2. No, it doesn't appear so. Looks like our first televised game will be Liberty on the 19th.

I wonder if there will be a Wake Forest live stream anywhere though? Think I remember watching a couple of those the last two years (though they were not very enjoyable to watch).

A few tidbits about the games this weekend:

- This weekend is a 4 team round-robin format. The first game that will be played at David Couch Ballpark in 2019 will be G'town-Illinois at noon today.
- Sacred Heart-WF follows the first game at 4 pm.
- Deacs should have their way with Sacred Heart as they went 17-35 last year with a losing record in the Northeast Conference.
- WF plays Illinois on Saturday and G'town on Sunday. G'town has lots of connections to WF: Coach Walter went to G'town, his son plays for G'town and their pitching coach is former Diamond Deacon ('07) Eric Niesen.
- Two of WF's class of 2018 signees were drafted -- Grant Lavigne (2nd round Rockies) and Ryan Cusick (late rounder Reds). Lavigne signed, but Cusick did not and is playing for WF.
- No TV for the games this weekend, but live stats are available.

Finally, two recent Deacs received MLB Spring Training invites: Will Craig (Pirates) and Parker Dunshee (A's); pretty good chance that one or both will get an MLB look this year.

It's supposed to rain on and off for the next week in Winston (starting late tonight), so that may impact the weekend schedule.

Out indefinitely for school related stuff. Doesn't seem to be a major issue though.

It really sucks that none of these games are available to watch.

Deacs up 5-0 in the 3rd. Illinois beat G'town in the opener.

12-0 bottom 6. Seymour is 3 for 3 with 5 RBI. Lanzilli has the first tater of the season. McSweeney's line: 6 IP 1 H 1 BB 7 Ks. Realize it's only the opener versus Sacred Heart, but it's nice when WF plays up to expectations.

Thanks. Nice start. Assume it is over by now --- assume we won, do they go 9 inn. or is there a 10 run rule or something?

[insert Tin Cup GIF of "still goin"]

(it's 14-1 with 2 outs in the 9th)

Really like this team and the Deacs kicked some ass. The catch made by Poteet in centerfield last night was fantastic. I thought the uniforms with the script Deacons and the new Evoshield helmets looked Awesome last night.

Just listened to the Podcast with Stan and Tom Walter and it was great. A must listen.

Btw, this is not Wake related but I couldn't help posting this. It's Mississippi St.

deacs lose 5-2 to illinois. cusick gave up three runs in the 8th but overall seemed like they were outplayed a bit.

The defense played a little suspect. Lead off walks and errors killed Wake. Not sure how good Illinois is going to be, but they looked decent.
