Trump Directed His Attorney To Lie to Congress

Nothing like picking politics over doing the right thing.

Which is what the Republicans would do which hamstrings any impeachment effort.

Not that long? Clinton’s took less than two months.

It took less than two months to impeach Clinton for nothing. These impeachment preceding would be much longer than that.

Mom! He hit me first!

What would be the purpose of impeaching Trump when we know either he would not be removed or he would be removed and pardoned?

You might want to think through this a little more: if he’s removed, he’s not president anymore.

Happy to help.

Trump being president is only one problem. You’re basically making the case that a pardoned Trump is fine. He needs to be removed from the discussion. If he’s still tweeting, he poisons the well.

The right thing is to remove any Republican control of any element of the Federal Government. The entire party is rotten to it's core and a danger to the Republic.

Whatever steps necessary to achieve that goal is "the right thing to do"

starting with Mitch McConnell. That man has ruined everything.

Donald's approval rating since the start of the shutdown has dropped in most polls. He's in the upper 30's in most and even dropped to 43 in Rasmussen. I think the time is right to impeach him. Politically speaking it forces the GOP Senate to hold a trial (if they follow the rules, we will see) and derails any remaining agenda items they may try to undertake.

You have to impeach him regardless of what else Mueller has regardless of how it plays politically. There are things more important than what moves poll numbers. A president isn’t above the law.

Yeah who cares if he becomes a martyr for the GOP (who has plenty of members who will sink with the Donald ship)? Impeach his ass.

The downside of getting rid of Trump is that Pence would be POTUS for a year or more and could try to pack the federal courts with other radically RW friends of his. A second problem could be that Kasich would likely be the nominee in 2020 and be tougher to beat than either Trump or Pence.

I actually agree with Junebug, although not for his bullshit reasons. The rule of law matters. As a nation, nobody can be above the law. If there is evidence that the President induced witnesses to perjure themselves, then the house needs to vote to impeach.

The Senate can fuck off, either by refusing to conduct impeachment hearings, conducting a show trial, or refusing to vote in line with the facts. But the right thing to do is impeach.

Impeachment gives the Senate GOP the opportunity to put Trump above the law.

Mafiosi have gotten five, ten years and more for doing what Trump did. There's no reason he shouldn't be in jail.

No, it gives them the opportunity to show that they don't care about the rule of law. And they need to be forced to take that step.

I, for one, wouldn’t mind forcing Senate Republicans (and Self-interested Senste Democrats for that matter) to have a publicly recorded vote on whether they believe an amoral man who is at best a severe national security risk and at worst compromises by Russia should serve as President.

Also, Junebug, you’re complicit. And an absolute hack. Sit on your high horse all you want, shout to the rooftops your moral indignation for this administration, but you are complicit.

You must spread some rep around before giving to ADT again.

Vichy Republicans who enabled or sat by quietly while this national security threat took over our country have lost all credibility. You guys deserve to take a long time out to think about how you have damaged this country for years if not generations to come. And we’ve only scratched the surface of the many consequences we will have to live with as a result of the Trump presidency.

It's absolutely beyond any rational reason to think that Madison wanted to put POTUS above the law. It's even more outrageous to think Madison, Jefferson, etc., would even consider protecting a POTUS from responsibility to outright crimes committed to get or keep power.

It's one thing to think about the clouds of war, but using the outrageous concept that POTUS can't be indicted or charged for crimes on his own behalf is ludicrous. Is POTUS above paying taxes while in office? Can he rob a bank? Can he deal heroin out of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?
