Has Blogersodear given up on new basketball coach?

I don't think that Oats and Musselman's use of transfers at their schools should be at all a disqualifying factor, and I find it really hard to believe they'd adopt the same tactics at a major conference school.

It's a question you ask in the interview if they are willing to adjust, and if they're not then fine, move on down the road. But it seems like they're just doing what needs to be done to win at a high level at the schools they're currently at.

Beyond that I fail to see why people like Oats and Matta are not "realistic" for Wake. The really top-shelf jobs aren't available with regularity, so in all likelihood those guys are going to wind up a notch down at their next Power 6 job

That is very disappointing. It's taken 8 years for Miller to break into the Top 100. He wouldn't be on our radar if it wasn't for his dad and proximity to campus. Reasons 1-5 aren't great criteria for a coach in the first place.

Financial constraints at the least are definitely a component of finding a coach

What's the evidence that we are financially constrained? The reported $18M buyout for Manning (I guess a self-imposed constraint if true)? The long-term contracts we hand out to coaches left and right? The Shah center?

He's makes the most sense as a realistic candidate:

1. Age
2. Possible financial constraints we will be dealing with
3. ACC ties
4. Regional recruiting ties
5. Ties to Wake
6. Enthusiasm

If we can get any of the guys in the top tier that I wrote about then I would take them over Wes, but I have no idea how realistic that is at all - guessing slim to none on all of them.

Can he win games in March?

Four of our non-walk-on players were born outside the US. I fail to see why "regional recruiting ties" is an important element in a major conference college basketball coach

Especially when he's not recruiting 4-5 star, Top 100 talent at the moment.

No one over there sees any red flag with hiring the son of a major donor? Then again, our program is basically Nepotism U at the moment.

Given the possible outcomes, of which Wes figuring it all out and becoming an excellent coach who leads Wake back to the top of the ACC would seem the least likely, what we end up with is a guy who is either failing miserably like the last two coaches, or who is only really capable of making Wake a middle of the pack ACC team. Even if he fails miserably, he'll get AT LEAST 5 years since Manning did. If he just gets Wake to the middle of the pack, I fear he could be here for decades. If we're going to hire young, unproven coaches, we need the flexibility for the next AD to dump them quickly until we find the right one. We can hire someone with as good or better resume, without the baggage, IMO.

I disagree with both of these takes. It's literally the opposite of a nepotistic hire in my opinion. He's 22-4 at UNC-G this year and has them inside the top 100 in KenPom. That's pretty damn good to me.

It's pretty clear to me that any coach we hire is going to get 4-5 years since two of the worst coaches in ACC history have gotten at least that.

I also obviously disagree with you Ph that 1-5 are bad reasons (since I listed them and they are a big part of the criteria I'm using to assess who we could hire). Going over them quickly:

1. Of all of them this is the one I can part with the most. Even a 55 year old could be here 15 years without a problem if he's successful. The fact that he is SO young is what is a decent selling point to me.
2. You may not think it's a "great criteria", but it's a realistic hurdle if the buyout amount reports are correct.
3/5. Understanding the ACC and specifically Wake Forest and the academic minded institution we are is important in my mind in being successful.
4. NC is nicknamed the Hoop State for a reason. If we were in Minnesota then "regional recruiting ties" wouldn't matter as much, but since he's been around the area at UNCG it's very likely that he's a familiar face. This coupled with his age are two things in his favor for the recruiting trail.

lol he coaches at UNCG. Name me a mid major coach who is recruiting 4-5 star, top 100 talent at the moment. This would disqualify almost all of the options.

Only one coach on my list (Matt McMahon of Murray State) has a first round draft pick on his roster and Morant had two offers out of high school (Murray State and SC State).

Would love to hear your two top realistic picks that Wake should hire if we don't hit on a "home run" type guy.

The reason why anybody else isn't in that top tier is because they have question marks. There are no real safe hires when you're looking at mid major coaches who are making the step up.

Does anyone know if there's a way to change a .png file into a .jpg file?

Or at least change .png into something that can be modified?

THX

I am puzzled and a bit worried about something that is happening on my computer.

My mouse is jumping all over the place. It's brand new.

How can I fix it?

My Firefox was crashing. so I uninstalled it.

The I downlaoded it. After I saved it came up with a box abotu "Administrator and Password. I've NEVER done anything like this before.

So I change to it me.

It won't let me open it.

What gives?

Thanks...

On my tablet, the little circular thing that shows up by the cursor when you downloading keeps on and going.

Is this bad?

How can it be fixed?

Thanks.

I'd prefer a mid-major head coach who has spent some time as an assistant at a major.

I saw a story on this the other day. The professor had a valid point.

Even as recently as TWENTY years ago, people had to read or go to libraries to learn things. By doing so we would actually learn the data.

Today with Altavista, Bing, and ASKJEEVES, etc., people realize the information is at their fingertips 24/7. They don't need to TRULY learn it.

What say you?

Thx

Somehow a large portion of my sent emails disappeared from Outlook yesterday. I guess I was mistakenly unworried about being able to retrieve them from the company where my email originates. Then they said they didn't have them. This puzzled me.

Was I wrong to think that if XYZ company provides your email for godeacs@ogb.com that they would have all the emails even if they are forwarded to Outlook or sent through Outlook with godeacs@ogb.com as the sending address through Outlook from the email?

Isn't underlying service through them?

Thx

I guess my Outlook (a new one) is having ANOTHER problem with Outlook. I can't sent or receive from it.

However if I use MyEmail from the same computer, I CAN sent and receive.

I've shut down and restarted SEVERAL times.

Any ideas?

thx

Some of it depends on who you arbitrarily lump into "home run". I wouldn't put Musselman or Oats in the home run tier with the college head coaching experience of Matta, Marshall or even Smart. Noted, Musselman has NBA experience, but I don't consider that of much value after [Redacted]...he's still coaching at Nevada. They are both very successful mid-major coaches and I'd consider them both realistic picks.
