Kaepernik/NFL reach settlement

So how soon before a bunch of other players start kneeling to force their own settlements? Two fringe-roster college friends on different NFL teams should both kneel, get cut, fire off some collusion claims, and profit. Campanaro could do it, though he would likely get injured while kneeling.

He went from Al Bundy, (a has-been football player to shoe salesman). To a Rich Al Bundy.

I mean Kap is a movement now. Much bigger than himself. You would have to pay up for his services.

HMMM, they settled with Eric Reid also, so was he discriminated against too? No because he plays for the Panthers and is actually good

Reid has the stronger case. He was signed by a new owner then signed a 3 year deal.

Yeah, the dude wants $20 million to play in the freaking AAF. He's a clown who is too arrogant to realize he's not good.

How much media attention and butts in seats do you think Kaep would bring to that league? It’s beneath him. He has money. Of course it would take a lot of cash to get him.

If he got paid that much money, that's insane. Again, he got beaten out for a job by Blaine Gabbert. You're telling me he would have somehow made $60-$80 million over the last two years? He made $14.3 million his last year of playing. Let's say some team gave him a generous offer of $10 million a year for his next contract, despite how bad he was. He's now getting 3-4 times that as a settlement. I guess somehow that's attributed to some sort of "pain and suffering" or lost wages?

This has also given him a massive increase in popularity (again despite sucking on the field), resulting in the Nike and other endorsement deals. It's great to see the NFL look shitty, but it's funny how people portray Kaep as a victim here. He does seem like a genuinely good guy though, and hopefully he'll do a lot of charitable work with the money to further his causes.
Are you for real? GTFO.

tigerswood would take Nathan Peterson over Kaep in a must win game.

Dude is a career 59% accuracy passer with 72 tds/30 interceptions. His last year when he presumedly sucked he was 59/16/4. At bare minimum, he should have been making a couple million a year holding a clipboard. Anybody who thinks he is isn't one of the best 64 qb's in the country is probably someone who also watches a shit ton of foxnews.

tigerswood would flip his shit if a QB was blackballed for wearing a MAGA hat.

Yep. When a guy like Nathan Peterman is cut and signed by a new team within a day or 2 shows how Kap was definitely blackballed.

Terms not announced.

Hopefully, teams will stop discriminating against a player for peacefully using his 1st Amendment rights.

Really? "In the end, like most people who claim to be motivated by social justice, Colin Kaepernick was all about the money. NFL gave him a rounding error on their balance sheet to settle all his claims against them forever. They paid him money to shut up and he took it." Period.

The settlement won’t stop Kaep from speaking out about police violence. The suit wasn’t about his right to protest. It was about being blackballed and losing wages because of his protest.

So, no, his activism isn’t about money, it’s about the leagues retaliation and suppression of that activism.

So why settle and take the settlement money then? Why demand $20M from the AAF? Dude will never play another down again, because if he does (and fails) then he's nothing more than a footnote and his story ceases to exist. He knows this. It is always about the money.

What would the other result of the lawsuit be if not a settlement? Money is one way to resolve conflicts in our society.

hoopla, you seem to be arguing he shouldn’t get paid what he’s worth.

He would easily be worth way more than $20M to the AAF.

I think it is pretty clear it's really not about playing anymore. He clearly has the money and endorsement opportunities to not play another down. In addition IF he signed with ANY team AAL or NFL (or some other) and then proceeded to stink up the field it would prove the owners are not at fault and that he is just a mediocre QB with a lot of baggage that teams don't want to carry. It would be lose/lose for him. As I recall he was also offered an NFL contract after his first season of not playing but turned it down. It's pretty obvious he did not really want to play anymore.

If by worth you mean awareness (not skill or aptitude), maybe. Thats a whole other issue. You say he's worth that (and more). Yet NFL chiefs do not see it this way and his stats don't support this. So he's choosing to turn down work because he's deemed himself to be worth more than they are willing to pay (read that most players make around $75K). Asking for $20M simply states that he has no desire to play in the AAF. That is fine and his choice.

It was also his choice to turn down the Broncos contract two years ago. Everyone forgets that one. That said why not play and ball out for a year in AAF? NFL heads have short term memory and would for sure offer him a contract allowing him to get back in the league. Up to him once he gets back at that level. If he loves it so much then why would he not do everything in his power to get back to where he once was? You can't scream no one will hire me and when offered say, that is not good enough. Between Nike endorsement, his salaried days, and now NFL settlement, he has the option and choice to do as he wants.

But no one can say it was never about the money.

Of course it’s about money because that’s how you get paid to do work. He was blackballed and got paid.

Sounds like the price of Kaep and Reid's right to free speech is somewhere between $40-60M

I'm fine with them getting paid, however if you don't think this doesn't lessen their cause then you're wrong.

I haven’t seen anywhere that Reid is going to stop kneeling or that Kaep is going to stop advocating for social justice.

The NFL can’t force teams to sign a player. A settlement was really the only resolution in Kaep and Reid’s favor. The fact an owner who wasn’t part of the blackballing just signed Reid to a 3 year deal basically sealed the deal.
