Travel Photo Thread

I'll bump this

JetBlue Park for Rays @ Red Sox...I also went to Sarasota to see my Orioles take on the Red Sox but none of those pictures were particularly eye-catching

Dude getting bucked off a bronco at the rodeo I went to....absolutely wild time, never thought I'd do that

The Budweiser Clydesdales....those MFers are HUGE weighing between 1800-2200 lbs. I never noticed the braiding and roses in the mane. Very gorgeous creatures especially when all dolled up like that.

We walked over the pedestrian bridge to Mexico and spent some time in Nueva Progreso, a small border town with lots of street vendors, shops and cheap pills...bottom photo shows some Mexican kids swimming in the Rio Grande

A picture of birds...why do you ask? In McAllen, TX at a certain intersection, every day around dusk these grackles gather in droves on the power lines and in the trees. There's thousands of them and they all end up facing the same direction. If you go a block or two in any direction, these birds are nowhere to be seen. It sounds pretty hokey but it was quite fascinating to witness these birds swarming and gathering in the same place in what appears to be a random act. At times with all of them flying around it was like a scene in the Hitchcock film. I'm only posting one that came out the best.

those birds are so weird; i wonder why they all face the same way. do birds always face the same way and i've never noticed it before?
iiiiiiiinteresting.

I didn't think so and a quick google image search of "birds on wire" confirmed my suspicion

Walking over the border into Mexico is a ballsy move these days.

yeah but I felt pretty safe in this town, its basically built on US tourism it seemed like. A lot of Texans walk over to buy drugs and shop. Sure there were a good amount of beggars but I never really felt intimidated or that I would get robbed. It was like they knew that it was in their best interest to not be theives or criminal. I think its supposed to be the safest place to cross.

It was funny because the restaurant/bar we had margaritas in Mexico was the highest concentration of honkys that I saw during the 4-day South Texas leg of my trip.

Not an exotic location and I took this using my phone so the quality isn't the highest but thought this was a cool picture of the sunset down at the lake this weekend.

Fair enough. All I know is my wife's family won't go over the border at all right now (they live in south texas) and their housekeeper, who is Mexican, even refuses to go.

Love this thread. Always sad to see it fall off the radar. Thought I might contribute some photos from a recent backpacking trip in the Trinity Alps in northern California. Thank God summer is finally here!

Ugh...I'm itching for a vacation after seeing this thread bumped.

crapshoot, i know we've discussed, but what camera do you use? can't get over the image quality there.

Nothing fancy, just a couple Canon point-and-shoots ... an old PowerShot SD750 and a newer Powershot SD4500. The SD750 is a war horse and takes great photos.

this thread just made me crazy excited for my vacay in exactly one month :wiggle: #humblebrag #dontcaretooexcited

Just got back from a 2 week vacation in Europe. Started in Amsterdam and took a river cruise down the Rhine through Germany, France and Switzerland. The cruise ended in Basel and we took a train to Grindelwald where we spent 2 nights. From there, we traveled to Rome and flew home this morning from the Rome airport.

The river cruise was cool and the food was excellent, but far and away my favorite part was Switzerland and the Alps. I wish I had been better equipped and had some more time to spend there.

Arriving in Grindelwald

View from our hotel room: the east face of the Eiger. It was very foggy and rainy when we arrived and it basically stayed that way the entire stay in Switzerland.

North Face on the way up the Jungfrau

Snow Fun area at the top of the Jungfrau. Sustained winds of 75km/h and snow/sleet. These are just some random people, I wanted to catch the weather.

My favorite part. Standing on the observatory platform, the wind was rushing up the one side and just making an ungodly racket. The gusts were reaching 100km/h and it was pretty fun to stand where I was standing in this picture and let the wind race up the rock face as you stood exposed.

Coming back down, TWToy's brother, dad and myself decided to get off at one of the train stops coming out the tunnels and do about a 2 hour hike down to the Alpiglen station. It would have been very cool had the weather been clear, as it takes you right below the North Face. Sadly, our hike was cut short by intense rain and limited visibility. The worst part though, was the thunder/lightning storm that rolled in as we were getting off the train. To continue would have been very dangerous as we were exposed and soaked. Oh well, here is to hoping that next time, the weather will be better.

I'm not a photographer and these were taken with a 3 year old 7.2mp Sony point and shoot. Hope you enjoy :)

WTF I DIDN'T POST THIS PIC???

Its from a moving car on the AlCan a couple hours northwest of Whitehorse in the Yukon and has been my desktop background since I drove up to Alaska with my friend in July 009 as he was stationed there. His girlfriend is making the trek with him on Saturday as they move to Columbia, SC via my favorite parts of the AlCan and the Pacific Coastal Highway and I'm insanely jealous I can't join them on this trip. My dad is doing the PCH this summer as well. :(

Just got back from a backpacking trip in western Idaho near Hells Canyon. Absolutely beautiful. Thought I'd post a few photos and see if we can get this thread moving again.
