Sorry for bringing politics here to the chat thread safe space but hoo boy lectro. Just straight posting anti-Islamic propaganda. No idea if that’s a violation of terms of service here but I’ve been thinking about the terrifying trajectory of our technology platforms for radicalization. Nobody is getting radicalized on a Wake message board, but places like YouTube whose algorithms will send kids to conspiracy videos, to Infowars, to ISIS recruitment, to really fucked up stuff not content moderated at all, just generating huge ad revenues. Or places like Reddit and 4chan that have effectively weaponized trolling and meme-making. We’ve effectively punted this issue and valued “free speech” and tech monopolies over any kind of ethical oversight. Not sure how this shakes out without straightforward censorship or just continuing to let people radicalize. Just some chill Sunday morning thoughts.
