Ilhan Omar Takes Victory Lap: Resolution 1st Vote Against ‘Anti-Muslim Bigotry’

I don't think RJ is necessarily doing it with poor intention, but when he buys into these attacks on Omar, and when democrats play the both sides game as they did here, it has the effect of suppressing real criticism of Israel and our support for the occupation. It is the problem with this bullshit era of civility politics. We've heard more news coverage of Omar's comments and the backlash, than we have heard about Israel committing war crimes.

Be more outraged over this:

The commission found in the killings of 189 demonstrators between 30 March and 31 December 2018, 183 were killed with live ammunition, including 35 children, 3 health workers and 2 members of the Press. Only 29 of those killed were members of Palestinian armed groups.
Only 4 Israeli snipers were lightly injured, none were killed by demonstrators.
23,313 Palestinian demonstrators were injured during the 2018 demonstrations, 6106 with live ammunition, “contributing to the highest toll of injuries recorded in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 2005.
On the killing of child demonstrators, the commission found “reasonable grounds to believe that Israeli snipers shot them intentionally, knowing that they were children”.
On the killing of health workers, “the commission found reasonable grounds to believe that Israeli snipers intentionally shot health workers, despite seeing that they were clearly marked as such”.
On the killings of journalists, “the commission found reasonable grounds to believe that Israeli snipers shot journalists intentionally, despite seeing that they were clearly marked as such”.
The commission found that both male and female protestors were shot in the groin. The female victims told the commission they are now “unlikely to be able to have children”.
The policy of the Israeli Minister of Defense, was to deny passage to any person injured during demonstrations, causing unnecessary deaths and life changing injuries.
According to the commission, except in two possible cases, “the use of live ammunition by Israeli security forces against demonstrators was unlawful”.
Israel used a “disproportionate use of force”.
The “demonstrators were shot in violation of their right to life or of the principle of distinction under international humanitarian law”.
The commission found “reasonable grounds to believe that the excessive use of force by Israeli security forces violated the rights” of thousands of demonstrators who were peaceful.
The commission found “reasonable grounds” to believe that Israel violated “The Convention on the Rights of the Child”.
“Violations of international law, such as those committed by Israeli security forces and set out in this report, give rise to State responsibility…”.

I buy into anyone who makes bigoted statements about any American not being able to loyal due to "allegiances" as being 1000% wrong. This was used on the Irish, Catholics, Jews and others as a way to discriminate against that group. Either she's too stupid to know what she was saying or she is voicing bigoted speech towards all Jews in America.

When you add to her other utterances, it's the latter. She's done it multiple times and doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt any longer.

Before MHB or others jump in, I have been for the two state solution for decades. I have opposed Netanyahu's fascist and immoral expanding of settlements. On this board I've backed treating Muslims as our equals, our brothers and sisters.

But not holding this bigot responsible for her repeated words is giving her a pass to foment hate.

Fox News talking head Jeanine Pirro attacked Rep. Omar on her show Saturday night. She claimed that Omar wearing a hijab was a sign of her loyalty to Sharia Law instead of the United States - "Omar wears a hijab, which according to the Quran 33:59, tells women to cover so they won't get molested. Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?” So now it's Omar who is having her loyalty to the United States (and the US Constitution) attacked and questioned. I wonder how many of Omar's critics - especially among Republicans - will come to her defense?

Pirro is a moron. Her take is bigoted and ignorant.

She fits in perfectly at Fox.

It was rather amusing watching GOP Rep. Liz Cheney (Dick Cheney's daughter) attacking the Democrats as anti-Semitic on Meet the Press this morning. Her argument was that the anti-hate resolution was toothless, and should have been aimed specifically at Rep. Omar and her "hate speech", and that the Dems should have stripped Omar of her membership on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, just as the GOP (finally) did to Rep. Steve King (after 13 years). For Liz to condemn hate speech is pretty rich, given that she threw her own lesbian sister under the bus in her failed 2014 Senate bid by condemning gay marriage (apparently they didn't speak to each other for years afterwards). She's "deeply concerned" about one of the first Muslim women to serve in the House spouting hate speech and the House Dems "support" of it, but she's apparently got no problems with supporting bigotry against gays and restricting the rights of her own sister to marry. Nice going, Liz.
This is a nice whatabout post. 8-10

Oh nice! the board alt alt right cares about anti-semitism again.

I enjoyed yall’s enthusiastic support during the Lectro debacle!

To the right, anti-Semitism seems to consist of saying anything even remotely critical of Israeli government policies, or implying that the pro-Israel lobby is a powerful force in US Government circles (in both parties). It's also funny listening to conservative Christians pretend that they care about Jews or the Jewish people, when their main concern is that Israel must exist for The Rapture to occur, so the US should protect Israel so that glorious event can happen. After The Rapture, Israel and the Jews are on their own.

Omar's unwillingness to hold Muslims responsible for 9/11 shows she needs to be marginalized. She's had almost a week to fix her statement and has refused to do so. This is outrageous. She needs to be held accountable.

Fuck off.
