Wake Forest University Coach Named By FBI in Bribery and Academic Fraud Scandal

I don't recall a specific student name associated with the Wake volleyball coach bribery. Both the actors were involved with USC.

Look at post 55. From what I can tell, this is all poster speculation though. I don't think that family was one of the ones that pled guilty with Felicity Huffman.

He was talking about the daughter of Nip/Tuck guy, and No, she was not the student involved. It was reported that the student who was admitted was never actually on the volleyball team, while the girl you are thinking about is a member of the team.

Okay, thanks. Makes sense given that Olivia Jade was never on the crew team or whatever.

And I wouldn’t expect you to be able to do what I do for living. That doesn’t mean either of us lacks value. Everybody has different skills, abilities, and interests.

How elitist are you and DeacMan if you’re looking down on an “ivory tower elitist?”

Yeah, because I'm merely noting the fact you can't understand a cash flow statement suggests that you spouting off on business acumen would be the same as someone like me spouting off on qualitative research analysis.

To get this back on track, some of the parents involved are now charged with more serious crimes, including money laundering.

This is part of the game the prosecutors will play to try and get a deal out of the parents. Not saying those charges don't have real legs. Just noting that they'll just keep upping the pressure via various means. Next up could be threats to prosecute some of the kids involved.

The idea that you think there’s one way to have a business is pretty sad. It’s as if you missed a few decades.

You really are insanely dense about this. This all started with the notion that many people have some flash of success but squander their wealth because they don't know the first god damn thing about running a business or managing their wealth. It never subscribed a level of acumen (or lack thereof) to Olivia Jade. I suspect at age 20 she knows very little about how to actually operate a business or sustain wealth. But maybe she does.

What I do know is that regardless of what type of business you run there are certain basics that you cannot escape (like math) - something you seem no longer applies in the present day world.

I bet you wear a suit to work and expect any woman there to get you coffee.

I bet you wear a suit to work and expect any woman there to get you coffee.

And I'm sure you peddle in false conjecture given I'm wearing a sweatshirt and a baseball hat today and literally just picked up coffee for two co-workers (one who just happens to be a woman) when I was downstairs getting lunch. But, hey, when you prove yourself to be a blowhard moron about any number of topics about which you have absolutely no personal experience you sort of have to resort to painting others as ethically short of your "ivory tower" existential existence. I mean how else do you express command and control? This card you've played was almost as comical as the one proclaiming people of our age only understand one form of business - as if there have not been numerous forms of business for many centuries. Almost.

If you recognize multiple types of business, what’s your point?

This is not what I was told by someone who should know. I heard the player is on the team and has even recorded stats in games. The parents have not been charged. All this makes the charges against Bill Ferguson a bit strange from my vantage. we'll see..

Even if she played, he still took a bribe to recruit her over someone else.

There are hundreds of thousands of very successful Americans who have no idea how to do financial analysis or read financial statements. They hire people like Stan Gable and DeacMan to do that work for them (and people like me to do their legal work).

It is just as likely that Olivia Jade is having her money professionally managed as it is that she is squandering it all. Nobody on this board knows whether she is or not. There is no difference between Olivia Jade leveraging her good looks and marketing (aka "influencing") acumen to make bank at age 19 and a Zion Williamson leveraging his particular God-given talents to make bank at age 19. If they're smart, both will pay trustworthy professionals to manage their money while they focus on what they are good at, thus maximizing their income.

A person doesn't have to be knowledgeable about financial statements to understand that the modern capitalist economy is driven by specialized workers, all doing what they are best at to maximize income and hiring other specialists to do the rest.

Yeah, but the point is if Ferguson was bribed, someone bribed him - why weren't they charged?

They may have been. Just not all the dots have been connected publicly. They were probably some of the relatively unknown rich people, maybe in the group that took early guilty pleas.

Doggus said they hadn't, hence the conversation that followed.

I haven't seen a chart that connects parents, students, coaches and schools. Has anyone gone to the effort to do this?

Hence my supposition that the Wake situation could involve relatively unknown rich people from the list. And, for whatever reasons, the connection is being kept quiet.

Felicity Huffman pleaded guilty today in the college entrance bribery case. Apparently she was one of the ones who went the "enhanced" SAT route to assist her daughter getting into college.

Article on the whole "side door" for college admission.
Small, academically elite schools allow a high percentage of admits to be driven by athletics.

Felicity Huffman was sentenced this afternoon. She got two WEEKS in jail. Prosecutors had requested a month of jail time, one year of probation and a fine of $20,000.
