Wake Forest University Coach Named By FBI in Bribery and Academic Fraud Scandal

I've read my free WaPo articles for the month, so unable to read Nate's victimhood speech

Outside of Hatch saying the only person at Wake aware of the bribe taken by the volleyball coach was the volleyball coach there is nothing in that article you probably have not read on any number of other web sites.

I don't want to read through 20 pages of this. Quick question, is the volleyball coach who took the bribe, the new coach, or the one who was let go about 2 years ago for verbal abuse of team? Same guy or two more bad hires in a row by Ronnie?

He's the current coach, at least for now, who has been suspended.

And better still

Two former Yale women’s soccer players — who requested anonymity given the sensitivity of the situation — told the News that while pursuing a master’s degree at Ohio University, Meredith allegedly pressured members of the Yale women’s soccer team to not only edit his academic papers but also to write significant parts of them. Meredith received his degree in recreation and sports science and coaching education in 2018, the same year he resigned from his position for undisclosed reasons. Neither of the players who spoke to the News said that they took part in writing the papers.

Everybody thinks parents are paying for their kids to go to Wake Forest:

Still a little fuzzy on the narrative of this whole thing:
On the one hand, the children of the rich, famous, connected, etc. are supposed to have a leg up on admission just b/c of "entitlement". But if that's the case, why do their parents have to commit federal crimes to get Junior in? I'm 100% in agreement that the wealthy and connected kids have advantages that others don't, but sounds like the admissions folks are doing a pretty good job of keeping them out if their grades/test scores/extracurillars aren't up to snuff.

How could someone not understand the basics of this case ?

fair enough. dont mean to question you...just with the news of coaches making up recruits to make their lives easier...seemed an easy dot to connect. then someone brought up American ranking in tennis as if that has any relevance in who plays collegiant tennis. good to hear he actually deserves his spot on the team

Just for the record the kid got a doubles W this past weekend against Coastal Carolina, so guessing he's got some game to get on the court for #2 team in nation. Of course the conspiracy theorists out there might suggest Bresky reads the board's last week so then.....

It's about Athletics and Admissions. Loughlin's daughter, like most college students, was just hanging out on the yacht of the BOT Chair, Caruso. True? He looks like he is about 58 yrs. old. If true, that's a great look for USC. LOL.

But all these folks know what's going on:

Admissions (all of them)
BOT
President's Office
Fundraising/Advancement - not just the annoying robo-call office, but all of them
Athletics duh
Bursar
Financial Aid
Provost's office
Scholarship office (elite level donor scholarships)
Parent giving (fundraising)
Events and programs - BOT events
Summer Orientation - somebody has to onboard these kids; there are health forms and all sorts of stuff to be signed

Maybe a few more.

At least the USC admissions department didn’t Forget About Dre (and his big donation when his daughter applied).

He used the "back door" used by many wealthy people to insure their kids get into prestigious colleges. Sometimes the kid is smart enough to be admitted anyway and the money is icing on the cake. But from the parent's perspective it never hurts to use your money to help insure things happen as you want them to.

Semi-related, but Trump’s nominee for Ambassador to the Bahamas gave $5 million to Wake when his son was on the golf team.

He also gave $1 million to Trump’s inaugural committee but hasn’t been confirmed in part because he said during his Senate testimony that the Bahamas were part of the US.

He thought he was nominated to be ambassador to part of the US?
