Coaching search digest thread: pre-firing stage

Anyone stating that they don’t know the exact number but believe is about $X, doesn’t have a clue what the buy out is. Put zero confidence in those hedgers. They don’t know shit.

If Nathan Hatch allowed Ron Wellman to obligate the university to an eight-figure buyout of an unproven, unqualified coach in basketball after a single barely above-mediocre season, then the Board of Trustees needs to demand that Pres. Hatch send a letter of apology to every Wake alumnus, Deacon Club donor and season ticket holder. Such a stupid decision, by Wellman but enabled by Hatch, is the very definition of flagrant waste of organizational resources. It is pure malpractice in office and cannot be allowed to go unsanctioned. Any corporate officer who did such harm to the business would be shown the door.

All this - higher education is generally run by dolts.

Well between the board, Wellman, and Hatch, Hatch is probably the only one in academia.

Jesus guys, they are not going to fire him the day off the acc final... it’s never going to happen that way. It’s Monday or Tuesday and then start to panic

zqglass being treated as a legitimate source is almost as funny as folks doing the same with hoopla

If Manning is not terminated and is around next year, will not hurt too much as I have not watched a complete game in two seasons and I go back to the Len Chapell era. Thank goodness for Dave Clawson!

so rule of thumb: original ACC members don't fire coaches during the ACC tourney because that ain't polite. Yankee carpetbagging new ACC schools fire coaches whenever they damn well please.

That is about it. Respect the League. All the work can be done behind the scenes.

Reposting from other thread:

Other "recent" ACC changes:

2018:
Pittsburgh - Stallings fired 3/8; Capel hired 3/27
Louisville - Announces Padgett won't return on 3/21; Mack hired 3/27

2017:
NCSU - Gottfried fired 2/18 (finished season); Keatts hired 3/17

2016:
Georgia Tech - Gregory fired 3/25; Pastner hired 4/8

2015: NONE

2014:
Wake Forest - Bz fired 3/20; Manning hired 4/4
Virginia Tech - Johnson fired 3/17; Williams hired 3/21
Boston College - Donahue fired 3/18; Christian hired 4/3

My takeaway from all of that is that it isn't unusual to wait until a week or so after you lose in the ACC Tournament to make a change... It's not just the Wake Forest Way.

Recent history suggests that ACC coaches have generally been fired post-ACCT.

This is Day One of Post-ACCT.

If Manning is still the coach at 5 PM Monday March 18, Pres. Hatch (not Wellman) needs to put out a statement explaining why and admitting (if it is the reason) that Wellman signed a buyout that was so irresponsibly huge Wake cannot afford to make a change.

Does seem like we’re in the “go zone” now. If nothing is announced by Thursday we are totally fucked.
