Manning Returning for 2019-2020 - b/c basketball decision, obvi

I have 3 different folks telling me they read an email marked “confidential” this evening say we are announcing Manning is come back tomorrow. Because that makes sense to send emails....

Supposedly it is on FB. I am not on FB, so can't check.

Something called Demon Deacon Nation???

Demon Deacon Nation is a FB group about Wake sports. I'm sure that they got their info from this board.

If it's a matter of the donor money coming up short for the buyout, just finance the stupid thing and get his ass out of here! Surely a school with a $1.3B endowment and the credit rating of a Top 30 institution can get a loan from a bank to pony up the money needed to get this thing done? The resurgence of tkt revenues alone from hiring a real coach will probably be enough to pay the loan back over 2-3 years. And the annual ACC TV revenue would make for good collateral.

This is ridiculous if true. Keeping DM does NOTHING to help us going forward and both sets us back several more years and hamstrings a weakened John Currie, who looks like an idiot for taking a job where he has no control of the key decision-making for a year and change.

What's to stop Currie from firing him on May 1? Besides the fact that all of the good coaches will be elsewhere.

Attention Ron: the talking points you sent out are stupid and the people you sent them to aren’t really your friends and don’t agree.

FWIW, I didn’t see any relevant posts on the FB pages for Wake Forest University, Wake Forest Athletics, and Wake Forest Men’s Basketball (and all 3 pages appear to be routinely updated with announcements, alerts, events, etc.; and have that lame blue check mark).

This looks like utter ineptitude in leadership, including the announcement of a new AD. Madness.

As multiple people have stated, Wake LOSES money by keeping Manning around via lost ticket sales, concessions, parking, donations, corporate support, adds, etc. There is no way that is less than $2M a year. Unfortunately, it appears our current admin is too stupid to realize this or negligently ignores it.

Nobody calls a press conference at 8:30.

Yeah, this seems dubious, especially on a Friday. 4pm Friday news dump maybe? And it's probably going to be a press release followed by a glad-handing press tour with 2 reporters, one local and one regional cuz nationally no one probably gives a flying fuck.

Again, why do you even do a press release to remind us that the guy who's under contract, and a lousy one at that, is staying under said contract? Probably announcing another extension!

Danny expected back per Jason King of Bleacher Report

Just logged into FB for the first time in months. Went to Demon Deacon Nation page for first time. Those people seem weird.

Talking points? Just spill it man, what's the harm at this point? Or is this more BS in this crazy, information-scarce journey to oblivion?

Excitement generated from hiring a good, proven coach with a modicum of charisma would probably sell 5,000 season tkt packages at $350 a pop for a cool $1.75M right there. Add in a couple more mill from the ACC TV revenue honey pot and we're good. What in the name of Zeus is going on here really?

To play with the big boys, you gotta play the game, and that means big-time dollars. You can't keep running your supposed flagship on a shoestring budget. Insanity. Just go to the Southern Conference and get it over with.

We would instantly go from having the smallest football stadium in our league to having the largest.
