The Quiet desperation of generation X workers

That article is stupid. Gen X is in the midst of the child rearing years and midlife crises. It’s not because we don’t get attention paid to us. If Gen X hadn’t demanded changes in our time, men would still be wearing suits every day and women would still be slapping baby boomers hands away.

Gen X has had the easiest ride out of any generation since the invention of agriculture.

I'm 41 so a late term Gen Xer. I have an office job in front of a computer all day with mediocre pay, I stress about insurance and medical bills and college savings, the job is pretty boring and ultimately unremarkable.

I get around fifteen minutes of sex three times a month.

I drive a two-year-old blue Ford Explorer. I like the car.

Nobody other than about six friends, my wife and my kids will remember me six months after I'm dead.

So what?

I don't care. I have a good life. This is the way of things. Circle of life. This article is idiotic. Go to most places in Central or Southern Asia or Russia or some other hard luck spot, most men my age would trade with me in a second.

One observation is that Gen X should be taking over leadership roles in society at this point, but we're stuck behind Boomers who have decided to hang on longer than they would have in prior generations (see, e.g., Ron Wellman; the elderly folks running for POTUS; etc). Time for us to take the keys.

I think you've moved on from quiet desperation to bleak acceptance.

Was thinking about this yesterday. Why do we recommend mandatory retirement ages for directors of corporations at 70 or 72 and acknowledge that the prime ages for running large public companies are somewhere in the 45-65 range, but we'll nominate Trump, Biden, and Sanders to run for leader of the country next year at 75, 77, and 78?

Brangus, my dude, you have led a damn good life. Never forget:

Vocal, aggressive stand up sex in the woods (with a woman, the bears and deer ran away) during a camping trip is the closest I've ever felt to being a porn star.

Pete Butt is younger than I am, and I would be cool with him leading us, I think. But not that Gen X-er Beta O’Dork.

I thought Beto had that "it" factor. However he has really been letting his donk show lately. Starting to switch to Young Pete as the man.

Beto looked really good compared to Cruz but he’s challenged compared to the Dem field.
