Official 2019 MLB Regular Season Thread - Trade Deadline Wednesday

Yankees and Braves apparently the favorites for Keuchel as of today. Would prefer Kimbrel, as a Braves fan.

^^^MLB doing its level best to make their draft an "event" like NFL and NBA.

It will never be that. First of all, there are too many rounds. Secondly, no one really knows any of the players like they do in football and basketball. Further, those guys aren't going to be playing in the bigs for years.

Rangers have been one of the AL surprises so far. Apparently, Hunter Pence is with the team and hitting really well: .288/.341/.583

Seems like a good time to remind everyone that Scherzer is due $15 million per year for the seven years after his contract is over.

Went to Guaranteed Rate Field last night - first time there, nice ballpark, pretty easy to get into and out of by train and decent food/drink options. If you are in Chicago and the Cubs are out of town, it's a good option.

Encarnacion to the Yanks for cash and a rookie ball kid that the Mariners had traded to the yanks 2 years ago.

Seems redundant with Voit, but never bad to add a bat like his. If the Yanks get healthy, having Stanton, Judge, Voit, Encarnacion in the lineup is a lot of pop, adding Torres, Didi, Gio, Hicks and DJ - that's a tough out.

While they gave up nothing, it does make their lineup pretty RH dominant and limits their flexibility to rotate guys to DH for a game here and there. LAD is still the model for me. Extreme depth of position players with versatility and willingness to move pitchers between rotation, pen, IL, minors aggressively.

Matt Carpenter got a bunt double against the infield shift. Pitcher was chasing the ball in shallow left field and Carpenter had an easy double. It would have been a footrace to third had he tried for a triple, because no one was covering third base.

A few more like that and teams will be less likely to employ the shift. I like the batter handling the shift by doing this rather than have baseball legislate it away. Let the seven fielders play wherever. Let the batter figure out how to beat the defensive alignment.

Scherzer bunted a ball off his face in BP and now is going to miss at least one start.

In 1931 Lou Gehrig set the all time record for the most runs produced in a season...301.

"Runs produced" is what numbers? Sum of RBI and runs scored? If so, then homeruns are counted twice. Homerun gives the player a run scored and at least one RBI.

Or is this some other statistic?
