Most of you have never heard of Gino Marchetti. For decades, he was considered to be the greatest DE in NFL history. With today's training the 6'4, 245 could have been a superstar with the added weight. He was way ahead of his time as a player.

He was also ahead of his time as a post football businessman. Before McDonald's came east there were hundreds of Gino's. He also was visionary enough to partner with KFC to expand his market. Marriott used the multiple product base to help start their Roy Rogers chain after purchasing Gino's.

He also used comics like Soupy Sales and Dom Deluise to be Gino's Genie. One of the best stories was Muhammad Ali doing a Gino's Giant commercial that took several dozen takes. Ali had to take a giant bite for each take. The urban legend was that he ate so much that Ali puked several times that day.

Gino also bought and expanded Rustler Steaks which later became Sizzler.

Before Eagles owner Len Tose funded the first Ronald McDonald House, Gino Marchetti was giving money for scholarships and other philanthropic projects.

As great a football player, Gino was. He may have been a better person.

RIP

If he was 6'4" 245lbs, he was a monster back in those days.

As an elementary school kid, I probably ate at Gino's more than any other fast food restaurant.

My friend's mom and my mom used Gino's as a way to bribe us to take dance lessons in sixth grade. We would get $1 to use at Gino's on the way home. Before you laugh we could get two burgers, fries and a soda or a burger fries and a shake and still get change.
