Info on Deacs in NFL camps

Wolford looked like the best QB on the Rams. Looked better than Bortles and far better than a Allen who was wildly ineffective. If they keep 3 QBs I’d have to imagine he will stick around.

downtownram website: Allen is no longer practice squad eligible. Wolford brings the potential for Sean McVay to create and mold a quarterback to run his system and potentially develop into a reliable backup once Bortles’ contract expires after the season.

Wolford’s mobility is a massive bonus as his running ability in the open field, as shown above, is underrated. However, he can throw the ball with accuracy and confidence, and the arm strength is there.

He’s not a finished product by any means, but after the Rams went with Sean Mannion as their quarterback for the last three years, this is arguably the best group of quarterbacks the Rams have had in a long time.

It’s of course, up to Wolford, but if he can show in the preseason that he’s worth keeping around, he could be the Rams’ backup quarterback heading into the future.

Very good article. Detailed and very positive on Wolford.
In a way, his pro career is shaping up like his college career, at least so far.
In the beginat Wake, he had a very difficult task, but he kept plugging and ended up being very successful.
He's had other challenges and setbacks as a pro, but he keeps working at it and people are starting to realize the talent that he has. Fingers crossed he makes it with the Rams.

Wolford has been overlooked, both literally and figuratively, much of his football career. If he continues to make all the throws NFL coaches want, as the article says he did, he should have a good career as, at minimum, backup QB. IMHO, he could be capable of having some Nick Foles games as the fill in when some starter gets injured.

Dortch has a level of quickness that can't be learned or even developed. If he stays healthy (big if) he could have a nice career in the NFL.

Games this weekend for Deacs on NFL rosters. Let me know if I'm missing anyone...

Thursday
Jets (Ryan Anderson, Greg Dortch) at Atlanta - both Dortch and Anderson are fighting for a roster spot. Dortch has gotten some great press over the past one/two weeks and looks likely to make the 53-man roster. Anderson is currently slated as the 4th-string center and not expected to make the roster.
Cincinnati (Jessie Bates) at Washington - Bates looks to build on his great rookie season, with high expectations (for him, not the team) in Cincinnati
Packers (Tommy Bohanon) at Baltimore - signed earlier this week, Bohanon is looking to make an impression. The two FBs already on Green Bay's roster are both out with injuries, so he'll get a chance to show he's worth a roster spot.
Raiders (Marquel Lee, Kyle Wilber ) at Arizona - Lee looked good last week against the Rams, and is currently slotted as the backup SLB. Wilber is currently not practicing due to a minor injury, tough news considering he's not projected to make the 53-man roster.

Friday
Tampa Bay (KJ Brent) vs. Miami - Brent didn't travel to Pittsburgh last week due to injury, and I haven't found a reliable update on his status. Brent isn't projected to make the final roster.
Bills (Kevin Johnson) at Carolina - Johnson had an excellent summer, and, per the Bills' official site, is on solid footing as the #3 CB for the Bills

Saturday
Texans (Duke Ejiofor) vs. Detroit - Ejiofor played in 12 games (plus the playoffs) for the Texans last year as a rookie, and was set to be Jadeveon Clowney's backup, but suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in May.
Rams (Alex Bachman, Matt Colburn, John Wolford) vs. Dallas (Joe Looney) - a game full of Deacs. Wolford is currently battling for the 3rd string QB (and/or practice squad), and looked sharp in his preseason debut. Bachman has made an impact in the preseason, but is far down the list of Rams' WRs. That said, he's also getting some time as a returner, so there's still an outside shot he has at making the final roster or practice squad. Colburn has a slim chance to make the 53-man squad. Looney is entrenched as the Cowboys backup C.

Sunday
Seahawks (Phil Haynes ) at Vikings - the Seahawks' 4th-round draft pick was placed in the PUP list in July from a sports hernia surgery. He won't play this weekend, but Pete Carroll mentioned last week that Haynes is making great progress and beginning to run and do some light drills. Not sure on the timetable for his return.

Cowboys-Rams is on NFL Network at 10pm on Saturday. Thanks Waldo.

After the Panthers picked up one of their former draft picks off the Giants practice squad. In a way, cutting Dortch made room for Bachman.
