we bilked a vendor out of a minibar dinner for 6

were just planning on something simple and this annoying bizdev guy said like ten times on a call "money is no object, pick the nicest place in town"

great experience, especially for the super old dude who looked really confused for half the meal

so you ate snickers and drank sutter home winelet bottles?

Don't get the fascination with Dry Aged beef though, don't particularly like the flavor. And anything grass fed is pure garbage with no fat. Also, they gotta have béarnaise sauce

Rare sirloin is my favorite cook and cut. Am I a steak philistine?

Steak is delicious, but you can make one at home pretty easily that is just as good or better than the steakhouse.

yeah, overrated food for sure

steakhouses are fine but also overrated. the fact that i's a GREAT PLACE for business entertainment says it all

the best steaks are the cheaper cuts like hanger, skirt, flat iron, etc. ribeye cap the one exception.

The only steak I can't make as well at home would be a filet. They're infinitely more delicious at a steakhouse than at home. Strip steaks are my steak of choice, and the key there is just basting a shitton of butter on them the last two minutes. So maybe I just really like butter.

cast iron + butter + finish in oven

I don't bother finishing in the oven. I just do 6 minutes total with generous oil, flip every 30 seconds, add butter with 2 minutes to go and baste the butter/oil mix over it constantly.

Want to start experimenting with a sous vide

Definitely prefer getting a couple nice filets, throwing a couple potatoes in the oven, and opening a nice red rather than paying twice the price for the restaurant experience

Yeah, I saw that earlier and didn't even want to think about it.

this is one of the funniest things i've seen on tv in years

the show has been hit and miss so far but fuck i was dying at this

Surprised I hadn't discovered Deepfakes before yesterday. That shit's gonna revolutionize the porn industry.

Steak is one of those foods where I’m reflexively like “no way is it overrated” but then I realize I only have a steak maybe 3 times a year and I don’t feel like I’m missing out so yeah it’s overrated. Kind of like bacon, tbh. I bet I have bacon once a month or less.

Favorite cut of steak is a porterhouse/tbone - you get the best of both worlds with filet and strip.
