The most successful independent candidate in the past century has succumbed to leukemia. He was a wild man who actually created excitement.

A strange guy. He kinda has 2 political legacies. He cost HW a second term, and he was really the 1st Pub to run as a populist. Buchanan continued that tradition in 1996 but didn't get that much traction. But that populist movement in the Pub party prevented the passage of the McCain/Kennedy immigration bill that W would have signed, later resulted in the tea baggers and ultimately Trump.
