And it's not just American artists writing protest music, the whole damn world is awash in it. Fuck, Rammstein(!) a few months ago took apart all of German history and the concept of nationalism in a massive budget music video / movie (where they portray "Deutschland" as a black woman and sing "Germany / My heart in flames / want to love you and want to damn you").

 
lol oh shit, the first three unlistenable tripe, along with that no talent Beyoncé. How y’all have been so oversold on her is amazing. The chuck d tune was ok, the killers seemed ok but lacked teeth. I don’t speak Spanish to comment on the others but ok they are protest songs, my bad. No anthems in there that could sniff Sam Cooke or Dylan, though. But I stand corrected, there are protest songs but the quality of the music is so low in the rap era. That genre is played out

I fucking love AC/DC with all my heart but I’m not under any illusion that Giving the Dog a Bone and Let Me Put My Love Into You are important, or even good, lyrics.

Drive-By Truckers are writing some really good protest songs right now. Their latest album American Band is full of them and they’ve been performing some new ones on the road lately.

There has been lots of shit going on in recent years. It's easy record a song today. It's easy to put it up for people to hear. And in many states, you can walk into a store and buy some pot. Yet there are no songs that everyone is singing. Old people, young people, white people, people of color would all sing the protest songs of the day.

Next thing you guys will be calling Call Me Maybe a protest song.

BTW, the Drive By Truckers What It Means has about 110,000 plays on YouTube in around three years. It's hardly an anthem. It's a good song but never caught on.
