Nate Cohn: Trump’s Electoral College Edge Could Grow in 2020

To be fair, they had no idea making sure people could form militias to protect their neighbors would be interpreted to mean everybody could shoot anybody for whatever reason.

Are you saying people today interpret the Second Amendment as protecting the right for everybody to shoot anybody for whatever reason?

Thanks for sharing. First time I’ve seen this unfortunately.

I hadn't seen this particular piece (and couldn't access it via the link), but the Reagan southern strategy was pretty well reported around that time. And he was criticized for giving a states rights speech at the Neshoba County fair, just outside of Philadelphia MS. The Reagan campaign used a fair amount of code to let it be known they were courting the white vote.

Not everybody. I obviously misspoke.

Anybody who is thinking “Man, I hate Trump but I’ll vote for him over somebody who wants universal health care” was probably going to vote for him anyway.

Not true for millions of people who voted for Hillary last time around. I would vote for a moderate democratic candidate but I wouldn't vote for an unabashed socialist. Warren is gaining steam and I can already see Trump winning the popular vote and the electoral college if she gets the nomination.

What’s the harm in a little fascism as long as it ensures there will still be people who will absolutely financially ruined by a medical diagnosis?

People can call any Dem candidate a socialist to justify a Trump vote.

Not sure if you are calling Warren an unabashed socialist here, but, if so, you are not smart.

Looking forward to the Tunnels' 2020 electoral map predictions thread but it will be quite a high bar to eclipse the unintentional comedy of the 2016 prediction thread.

Yeah, the weekend's state polls are a mixed bag and not all that encouraging.

It must suck to have so little to look forward to.

When your posts resemble BKF’s you might want to reevaluate.

A lot of the scenarios I've read argue that 2020 could be a complete repeat of 2016, in that the Democratic candidate is likely to win the national popular vote again, but Trump is likely to squeak through in enough battleground states to win the EC again, albeit perhaps by a smaller margin than last time (and in 2016 it was very close.) If that happens I'm sure the GOP will be overjoyed and this board will be filled with long-absent conservatives taunting and trash-talking for days (no doubt BKF will emerge under yet a new username to say that he told us so), although it's hard to brag about having the American people on your side when you'll have lost the popular vote - that is, the votes of real people - for the seventh time in the last eight presidential elections. But it won't matter, they'll brag like they've won the popular vote too - alternative facts and all that.

This is exactly what will happen if assholes in the Democratic Party don’t get off their asses and vote again.

Let's be more specific. Dem assholes in NC, FL, NV, AZ, PA, MI, VA, NH and Omaha. I feel decent about MI and PA, but WI polls have gone both ways, and Trump has been doing well in NV.

One thing you can do if you're worried about Wisconsin, donate to the Dems that are organizing now:
