IF we increase our debt limit,

Our ballooning budget deficit reflects an unhealthy democracy

By the Editorial Board

This point is undoubtedly true, but the truth is our democracy is so unhealthy in so many ways right now that it's amazing we're doing as well as we are. A screwed-up budgeting process is only one of the ways in which we have a completely dysfunctional government. God help us if we have to face a truly serious crisis (foreign or domestic) anytime soon.

What we do believe is that fiscal prudence counsels against accelerated debt accumulation during a time of full employment, as opposed to trimming deficits and preserving fiscal space to deal with the next recession — among other priorities, foreseeable and otherwise, with which the country will be faced.

Crazy that this needs to be said.

And I agree that the MMT stuff seems at least as nuts at the historically disproven supply side bullshit.

If we cut the tax rate to 0%, we could end the national debt.

Republicans will be outraged.

"We will grow ourselves out of it! It will pay for itself," they said.

Democrats will, again and every time in my voting life, come back and try to save the economy once the Repugnicants fuck it up.

they are terrible and corrupt and we have never seen any corruption as we are seeing right now with Trump.

rinse, repeat...again!

Why would he have to worry about that? Who is this true conservative who is going to challenge Lindsey Graham? If a true conservative could win a Senate election, Graham wouldn’t have become a Trump toady.

Well here’s some good news. He has a Dem challenger.

The next president is super f'd, even if it's Trump himself. He goes all in every time playing with house money, whether it's his family's or the country's. It can work a time or two, but it's doomed to fail in the long run. Kind of like the idea that "wiping Afghanistan off the face of the earth" would bring peace in any capacity. It's an insane mindset that way too many people share.

Well Democrats need to speak up about this now.
