I'm guessing never. They will never admit members of their base have responsibility.

How many more white nationalist murders?

There is blood on the hands and souls of all of those who haven't stood up to our Racist in Chief in the WH.

Probably never. But they will send lots of heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims. And push the urgent need for every citizen from the age of five on up to carry a loaded, NRA-approved firearm at all times.

How come none of those good guys with guns at that mall stopped the bad guy with a gun?

This feels a lot like the GOP hassling Obama about not saying “terrorism”

But three of the most recent mass shooters all writing alt-right white nationalist manifestos and posting them on 8chan is a worrying trend within the horror sub genre that is American gun violence. I don’t expect much of a headwind from either party on this any time soon apart from bluster.

It's not like that at all because Obama actually did say terrorism just like he said "Merry Christmas."

Republicans aren't calling out white domestic terrorists and that's a problem. They're allowing homegrown terrorism to fester because they need support from terrorists and their sympathizers.

I suppose the broader comparison I’m making is about words and deeds, like Ilhan Omar saying she’s criticized if she goes a day without denouncing al Qaeda. Whereas she voted for the 9/11 compensation bill, voted to sanction Saudi Arabia for propping up al Qaeda, etc. Stronger actions than her republican colleagues have taken against the results and causes of extremism. But because she speaks with nuance about the foundations of terror we can police her speech.

I’m less concerned with calling out this extremism as I am literally policing it. Yet this administration cut the program’s funding for curbing extremist violence, choosing to focus on Islamic terror rather than white American nationalist terror (data be damned).

But again, that's not a comparison because Omar is interested in policing al Qaeda and Republicans are not interested in policing white domestic terrorism.

The thing that most disturbs me about the current administration and all of these ideology-driven mass shootings is that it all comes down to white supremacist ideology. Full stop.

It's not "white domestic terrorism." It's "white supremacist domestic terrorism." These are groups with public membership lists, facebook groups, web presence, etc. We know who these fuckers are and they have incited terrorism that has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people in the United States over the past three or so decades.

This encompasses a wide array of groups:

1) white supremacy-lite (as one can get from Fox News these days and dog whistles from the Trump administration that a few steadfast true believers and trolls still tacitly and overtly support on here)

2) pseudo-mainstream institutionalized white supremacist, misogynist/men's rights, and ethnonationalist organizations that exist under the banner of "free speech" (e.g., "The Alt-Right" that many on here defended through Charlottesville)

3) fringe neo-fascist white supremacist organizations (primarily radical neo-nazi and nativist groups that will never flirt with the mainstream and whose signals I'm not going to boost by naming them).

These are the actors that are enabling, even encouraging this shit.

If any of those characterizations offend you, then you might want to take a closer look at your politics.

Point taken, I’m splitting hairs, I’ll let it go. I think the thrust of the thread is correct. We need Trump and party to do the right thing and they won’t.

Well, I take that back. He did come on the show later.

The roundtable discussion on Meet the Press was unusually interesting today. Chuck Todd asked the panel about the shootings, and Pat McCrory launched into classic deflection mode (he claimed that Antifa members damaged his car recently). and argued that both sides were using overheated rhetoric, among other talking points. However, Princeton historian Eddie Glaude and Kasie Hunt directly laid into him, and said many things that I wish panelists had been saying to right-wingers on these Sunday morning talk shows for some time. Definitely worth a watch if you've got the time.

NY Post labeled the El Paso shooter a “terrorist”. It’s a start.

Great post.

It looks as if Fox News has provided the right-wing talking points on these two shootings. They're emphasizing that the quick response of Dayton police saved "hundreds of lives", that video games and social media are a main culprit in these attacks (Texas Lt. Governor), and that Democrats like Beto and Klobuchar are trying to "politicize" the tragedy by calling out Trump for his rhetoric and calling for gun control laws, and that they're both being criticized for doing so on social media (complete with screenshots of tweets from ordinary Trumpites attacking them.) Oh, and they also have two articles on "AOC's once-radical agenda" being "embraced" by 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, and a story about a convention of Democratic Socialists fighting with each other over "gender pronoun usage." Relatively little mention of white nationalism (one article points out that Democratic presidential candidates are calling out white nationalism terrorism, along with subtle digs and criticisms of them for doing so.) Basically par for the course.

I tried to read the manifesto but I stopped at “Hispanic invasion of Texas.” That’s just dumb and completely ignorant of history. Looks like this guy lived his whole life in TX and didn’t know the most basic fact about Texas history.

No, they won't. If they're not avoiding the press right now, they're blaming all of this on violent video games, social media, and a lack of prayer in schools. That's what ails us. And, shame on those Democrats for "politicizing" these tragedies by pointing out the clear links between the shooter's manifesto and statements and Trump's rhetoric and tweets and speeches about immigrants and Hispanics and non-white folk! How dare they!

But they will send their sincerest thoughts and prayers.

If there is a hell, there's an entire section for Republicans who blame video games for the actions of white nationalists.
