Trump invited the Taliban to Camp David

I can't wait for the day when a Democrat becomes POTUS again, and Republicans and right-wing media suddenly get amnesia about Trump's presidency and start attacking the Democratic POTUS for wearing a tan suit or not wearing a US flag lapel pin or getting a minor fact wrong about something. It will truly be a national crisis!
 
So Trump wanted to negotiate a truce (hello Vietnam) with terrorists on US Soil days before 9/11? And republicans like to say liberals are unamerican? Amazing hypocrisy.
 
...Trump doesn't understand any of this. He sees everything in terms of TV stunts, surprise twists to push ratings. Meanwhile, nearly every major deal he has sought worldwide has gone nowhere or floundered.

So much this. Not only Trump, but his entire rube base, was apoplectic when some NFL players kneeled for the national anthem. To listen to them it was the most disgraceful, unpatriotic thing they could imagine. Jump forward a little over a year, and their beloved POTUS apparently invited some of the architects of 9/11 to dine with him at Camp David just days before the 18th anniversary of 9/11. If Obama (or any Dem POTUS) had done this, the GOP base and leadership would be up in arms, and right-wing media would be calling for immediate impeachment hearings. Hell, if Obama had done this, it would have been taken as proof by the GOP base that he was himself a Muslim terrorist. But since it's Trump we'll get silence, though, and it will be ignored by his adoring fans as if it never happened.
 
Dems need to do what Republicans would do to a Dem President who did this. They need to brand Pubs as the “dinner with the Taliban” party.
 
You guys do know Trump's (and especially Ivanka's) financial partner in Trump Azerbaijan was the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, don't you?

It’s almost like it really mattered to those rubes that the people kneeling were black folks. They are totally not racist though.

NY Times this morning has a play by play of how this whole thing went down. They had almost everything set with the Taliban but the Afghan government was never at the table. Trump came up with the idea of bringing Afghan president and Taliban to Camp David so he could be a deal maker and have a big handshake moment. Pompeo was on board, Bolton was not. Afghan government didn't like it but has no choice but to play along because the US is propping them up. Then this attack happened and everyone agreed the optics would be bad. No one expected Trump to expose the whole thing on Twitter.
