Official 2020 NBA Offseason - First Half Season Schedule Out

The Warriors are clearly trying to emulate the Spurs' one-season injury tank for Duncan. Draymond and Russell will have nagging little injuries all year.

Sixers, minus suspended Embiid, steal a game in Portland.

The Suns are 5-2 with the only wins over the Clips (with Kawhi) and Sixers and two 1 point losses to the Nuggets and the Jazz.

Are the Suns one of the best teams in the league?

It's that damn height measurement pre-season. He was trying to get 1/2" taller ...

I don't think the Suns will stick it out, much like I don't buy the Heat. Both may be playoff teams but I don't necessarily see them as contenders. But really fun to watch teams to start the year. The Suns used the Celtics blueprint for Simmons last night, which was sinking and clogging the lane, and the Suns hit more shots and free throws than the Sixers. The game probably wouldn't have been very close if Furkan Korkmaz is on the bench and Joel Embiid is playing. Oubre was a great trade, just fleeced the hell out of the flailing Wizards. Such a high energy guy, always yelling and jumping around.

Devin Booker is awesome, and Monty Williams is a really good coach. The Brett Brown tree! Lloyd Pierce rules too.

Tonight's starting lineup for the Warriors:

Eric Paschall
Glen Robinson III
Willey Cauley-Stein
Ky Bowman
Jordan Poole

Nine games ago:

Steph Curry
Klay Thompson
Kevin Durant
Draymond Green
Andre Iguodala

I find it hilarious how bad of a rebounder Brook Lopez is.

Hoping this Ben shoulder injury isn't too serious, but putting my jaybone hat on, I think he's out a couple weeks.

I don't know anything about shoulders, other than I have two of them and one has some sort of rotary cuff thing going on. I did once see an ultimate frisbee player, a woman, dive for a disc and dislocate her shoulder. She screamed, rolled around for a few seconds, then got on her hip and drove her shoulder into the ground, popping it back into place. She then jumped up and finished the point. Most badass sports moment I've ever personally witnessed. But fucking milinial Kawhi Leonard can't play back to back games despite getting paid about $250,000 per game. The love of the game only goes so far I guess.

Counterpoint, load management is smart, and there are too many pointless regular season games.

He had a game with the Lakers where Brook played 34 minutes or so, scored 27 and had ZERO rebounds. By accident a 7' player should get a couple of rebounds. Not Brook.

Yep. The NBA needs to adjust for this by either extending the season closer to the NHL season, getting rid of back-to-backs, or setting up schedules that put better matchups at the front of back-to-backs.

It makes too much sense to play elite players with a track record of major injuries 60-65 games so they'll be ready for the playoffs during which there are no back-to-backs.

Curious where 2&2 falls on load management. I’m guessing he’s reviewed the science and will come back with an informed, nuanced opinion.

1. Anyone who uses the term "load management" about anything other than porn should have their opinion immediately ignored. Call it "star player on good team vacation days", which is what it really is. Nobody is managing Willy Cauley-Stein's loads other than deacphan.

2. As far as I know, the only pro sport where the amount of necessary rest between appearances has actually been studied and shown to cause a negative health correlation is with baseball pitchers. This recent NBA phenomena is just millennial pussies on winning teams wanting to take days off because they can and their team won't be materially affected. From the team's perspective it doesn't matter, but the league needs to understand that at their core they are simply entertainers and that they are shafting their audience, and especially their other paying fanbases for away games, when their star players don't play for no apparent reason. Unlike college sports and to a lesser extent MLB and the NFL, the NBA's marketing and branding is focused on individual players. If the players get the upside of that, they should also carry the downside.

3. The league should push for a mandatory CBA contract requirement for max/supermax contracts only that says if a max or supermax player misses more than 3 games per season due to "injuries" not requiring invasive surgery under general anesthetic, then the total contract amount for that season is reduced by 5% for each game over 3.
