Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

BeachBum, do you want to make this the official bowl speculation thread?

CBS Sports - Belk Bowl vs. Miss State (Clemson in; UVa vs. ND in Orange; Big Ten in Citrus)
247 Sports - Belk Bowl vs. Miss State (Clemson in; UVa vs. LSU in Orange; Big Ten in Citrus)

Does loser of ACC Championship or next best record after Clemson get Orange Bowl invitation?

Orange Bowl rep that I talked to at BC said that the Orange Bowl takes the highest ranked team if Clemson was in the playoff. Not sure how that impacts the ACC and Notre Dame, if that is one of the spots that Notre Dame can be slotted into.

It’s fair to assume that will be Virginia because of the Coastal and projecting Clemson for the CFP depends on us losing to them.

Right now we're the higher ranked comparing UVa...

If we go 3-2 (losing to Clemson and VT), and UVA goes 3-2 (losing to UNC and Louisville) then who ends up with the higher ranking?

And right now, that is the difference. Clawson needs to send a first round QB to the NFL. Then he will get the props he deserves. Jamie might be that guy, if he can stsy healthy.

Excellent point and right on target. When we get ourselves & claw up to 10 wins a few times and get that QB drafted in the first round the props will start coming.
He has had both Manning's and Jones

Granted he’s never coached a Manning, but Clawson deserves all the reverence that Cutcliffe is always getting

How dare you use that last name Manning in a Football thread! In order to avoid tainting our Fball success, you meant Clawson has never coached a Super Bowl winning QB from a SE conference school. Leave DM out of this world.

Unless there are firm contracts, if it's between Wake and almost any other ACC school we will not be the choice due us not being able to sell many tix.

This is not the case. We took almost 35000 folks to the orange bowl we have done well in every bowl but Birmingham. Hate to steal from Field of Dreams but if you get there, people will come.

We filled half that stadium against a much larger school. It was a beautiful site.....and the lowest flyover I have ever seen.

Yeah Wake has done a good job promoting itself as a fan base that is willing to travel. That gets us a decent part of the way there for a lot of the bowls. Someone has to go to the Sun Bowl each year though and we haven't gone yet - let's keep it above that level. Not that it wouldn't be a good time but just a tough spot to get to and kind of meh given we're sitting at 6-1 right now.

RJ, what's the last Wake Forest bowl game you attended ?

Official SIX WINS AND WE'RE BOWLING BUT WHERE?? Speculation thread

Haven’t seen any projections except Orange, Camping World, or Belk.

Getting to nine wins would be big. If you have an overall record two wins better than another team then you have to be picked first. I think Pitt and UVa prolly finish with 8+ wins, but an uphill climb for the rest, VT with the best chance probably especially if they beat us.

Big Ten making the Orange Bowl would be big since it opens up the Citrus spot. Def wouldn't hurt if the Auburns and Floridas and Georgias of the world fall by the wayside. LSU less of a problem since the Sugar Bowl will get first pick of available SEC teams.

Long story short, ideal scenario beyond winning the ACC would be:
Clemson makes the playoff
someone like Penn State from the Big Ten makes the Orange Bowl
Notre Dame makes the Cotton
Wake finishes at least 9-3 and by virtue of the one-win rule is guaranteed to get either the Orange or one of the two Orlando bowls

What if Clemson makes the CFP and is the only ranked team? Who make the orange bowl? Team receiving the most votes in the polls or conference record?

I believe the committee would keep ranking until they have a team to fill the slot

Notre Dame can play an ACC team in the Orange Bowl, but they can't take the ACC's spot in the game
