Pinstripe Bowl vs Michigan State

If we're in the mix for the OB spot at the end of the year, we want the best ranked Coastal team leading up to Championship week to be the team that plays Clemson.

Stewart Mandel of The Athletic (who has been high on us all year) predicting Orange vs. Notre Dame

Occurred to me Penn State is probably Rose Bowl bound, unless the Big Ten doesn't make the playoff. Might be wise to root against the Buckeyes and for that conference missing out on the playoff -- think I can manage that

Ohio State has a middling/overrated Wisconsin team and PSU at home and Michigan at the Big House. Hard to imagine that they won't roll into the B1GCG undefeated for a rematch with Wisconsin or Iowa (or maybe the mighty Gophers).

Penn State plays at MSU, Minnesota, and tOSU.

So, I think the odds would tell you to root for Penn State to lose one of their games and defeat tOSU if you don't want to see the B1G in the playoff and PSU in the Rose Bowl. Depending on other factors though, a one-loss B1G team would still make the playoff.

Obviously, being 6-1 at this point we are hoping for better than just making any bowl. However, I hope everybody appreciates how awesome it is to be going bowling 4 years in a row. I was 9 years old when we went to the Tangerine Bowl, I was 22 the next time I saw us play in a bowl game. Yes, I know how much easier it is to make Bowl games now, but still appreciate it guys.

That has been the life of Wake fans until this century. About one bowl game per decade.

Another way to look at it is we haven't had 4 straight .500 or better seasons since 1944-48 (based on my quick research) when we had 5 .

I think we went from the 40's until 1979 between bowl games. That is a long time, but things were a lot different then too.

Correct. 1949 to 1979 between bowls. The ACC title team got no respect and no bowl.

WF went to the Gator Bowl (beat S. Carolina) after the 1945 season (the game was played on New Years Day 1946).

WF went to the Dixie Bowl, in Birmingham (lost to Baylor) after the 1948 season (the game was played on New Years Day 1949).

After the Dixie Bowl and before the 1979 Tangerine Bowl appearance against LSU, WF had a winning or .500 record, eight times in 31 seasons (including zero winning seasons between 1959 and 1970).

So, by today's standards, WF would've gone bowling a few times during that three decade+ bowl drought. Incredibly, the 1970 WF ACC Champion team did not go to a bowl as they went 6-5, playing a brutal OOC schedule losing OOC games to top 10 Nebraska, top 10 Tennessee, FSU (and independent at the time) and #19 Houston. WF also played and beat VT in an OOC game that year. No bunnies on that 1970 schedule.

Hopefully if it comes down to us or Pitt for a Florida bowl bid we get the nod. I think we've proven more over the recent past that we'll travel, as compared to those jokers.

Mom noted she heard someone on the radio saying one of the Orlando bowls was interested in us

If CA were a country, it would have the seventh largest GDP. Sounds like it's really a socialist haven.

NC has about 10.4M people and a GDP of $450B. CA has a population of 39.6M and a GDP of $2.75T. Proportionally, CA has 600% of NC's GDP but less than 400% of its population. Seems like CA can teach NC a lot about capitalism.
Or California has a huge tech sector that drives massive income and wealth inequality.

I agree tho, If you have the money California is awesome. If you're middle class, it's a struggle.

We're going to the Sun Bowl. Go ahead and book your flights.

Jerry Palm has WF playing Iowa State in Florida in the Camping World Bowl. WF seems to recruit against the Cyclones a lot.

I was thinking about this on the way to work today: if we only lose one more game, we're better off losing to Clemson than anyone else.

If we beat Clemson, they would drop out of the playoff, and as the ACC's only 1 loss team would get the OB spot. If we beat everyone else and lose to Clemson, I believe we make the OB over a 3-4 loss Coastal champ.

If WF beats Clemson, WF could be playing for the ACC Championship in six weeks. Bowl games are great, but a title would be sweeter.

Exactly. Bowl appearances are just a big junket. Conference championships mean something.

The outcome in a bowl doesn't really matter. Winning the OB woulda been great but just making it was the whole point.

Losing the ACCCG to GT woulda really sucked tho

Having literally moved back to NC from CA three weeks ago after seven years living out there... THIS.
Please forgive my off topic comments:
California is a hot mess of insane economic disparity.
Sure, it has a massive GDP for itself. What that fact doesn't tell anyone is, the vast majority of that wealth is owned and controlled by about 5% or less of CA's population. Hollywood, Tech Sec, and foriegn billionaires. Yet, people keep going there, mostly from overseas, thinking "American Dream."
Brear Rabbit and the Tar Baby, writ large.
