Duke is a dirty team with a Punk coach

Like they're a bunch of stalkers out there trying to get David cutcliffe

Coaches having police escorts is stupid and reeks of narcissism & self importance. If your event staff is worth a damn, no one is getting to the field and you don't need an additional cop to simply run around and occasionally push aside players and media that have every right to be there.

Are star pro or college athletes permitted their own personal security next to them on the field? Can media bring their own security to ensure they have easy access to any area or player/coach that they need?

Amen

At least in the case of the bigger programs, it's as much about the hero worship as it is anything. I know some Sherriffs in the Roanoke area of VA..they say it's crazy the way grown men clamor for the game day assignments at VT. I don't know if the coaches always request an escort, or if the Sherriffs offer so they can feel special and "close to the program" on the tax payers' dime.

I'm sure that is correct. Can you imagine a Tuscaloosa deputy getting the assignment to be Saban's escort, instant jock sniffer boner for that guy.

That is really pathetic. I’ve been a sports fan my whole life and I’ve never desired to be close to the program/franchise.

Have you lived in small town rural America where something like that is a big deal and would give you a lot of social capital?

Does growing up in a small town with a state power high school football program count?

Based solely on the number of people on this board who brag about their insider sources, I have come to the conclusion that this phenomenon is not as unusual as phdeac would like to believe it is.

I don’t think it’s unusual. Jock sniffing is very common. I think it’s sad.

We can't all hang out with cool college kids all day every day without paying for it!

Is there a reason the programs aren’t paying for that security? I agree that it doesn’t make sense that coaches are getting their own detail.

Do NFL coaches get these state trooper details as well? I’ve never paid attention to this.

Watching the game replay on tape. Announcer said when Cutcliffe left Tenn. Clawson was/or became(?) the OC. Did they overlap there and some possible reason they are 'cool' toward each other from that?

No overlap. When Cut left for Duke, Fulmer hired Clawson as OC - didn't work out

Cut is a cheatin' sore loser.

He got something like 7 exta TO's to try to stop our O with all the fake injuries. :tard:

This may have been posted elsewhere, but seems appropriate here

Duke would have been a candidate for a bowl bid at 5-7 given their APR score, but there are enough 6 win teams to fill every slot, plus one extra, so Duke’s season is over.

And fuck Duke.

Thanks for posting that. Duke would have been at the top of the list due to their APR score. The 13 extra practices that bowl teams get are significant opportunities for coaching and player development. Glad Duke isn't going to a bowl game. Wake needs to surpass Duke and consistently beat them.
