dedicated to redsoxfaithful. i finally appreciate the greatness of lana.

That Purple Mountains album is just fucking devastating, and I really dug the Jenny Lewis album. Red Bull and Hennessy could get a man pregnant just by listening to it. No love for Charley Bliss or Sturgill? And I thought you were feeling that Angel Olsen? And man, it's been a pretty uneventful year for hip hop, hasn't it?

I was really digging Angel Olsen but I don't know how much staying power it has. I'll still see her this tour. Plus she just announced a show with Mount Eerie at the Prospect Park bandshell next year. Still doing cool stuff!

But this year for me was about new discoveries. Caroline Polachek made a really interesting and weird record. Weyes Blood and Faye Webster too. Big Thief owned this year, put out two really, really good albums.

For whatever reason I haven't really clicked with the new Sturgill yet. Metamodern Sounds was definitely on my AOTY list the year it came out, and seeing him was fun too, he can play.

I also definitely think this is the best Mountain Goats record of the decade. Best since the glory years of Sunset Tree, Get Lonely, etc.

The Purple Mountains and Bill Callahan would definitely be on my list if I made lists. I really dug the Jessica Pratt and Cass McCombs releases this year, too. The School of Language record I loved, but I'm a fanboy. A kind of out there one I liked a lot was the 75 Dollar Bill album.

Trying to think, I jumped a little more into contemporary releases this year. I need to listen to the new Omni.

Some others I liked and want to listen to more:

Kim Gordon - No Home Record
Jenny Hval - The Practice of Love
Maxo Kream - Brandon Banks
Denzel Curry - Zuu
Fennesz - Agora

18.) Tallest Man on Earth - I Love You. It's a Fever Dream.

this was a year with a few big disappointments (hello deerhunter, hello chance), but for the most part it was filled with really, really good stuff, especially if you dig the whole female singer/songwriter thing. i feel pretty good about the top 7 here, then things get a little messy. sunchokes is technically a reissue from 2016 but shut up i do not care. i thought the bon iver album was actually very bad tbh

some other stuff i dug:
oh sees - face stabber
mikal cronin - seeker
bj the chicago kid - 1123
common holly - when i say to you black lightning
ty segall - deforming lobes

How did I forget about Sharon Van Etten? Obama even had Seventeen on his summer play list.

I thought the Tyler and Earl albums were disappointing. Alas

january releases mess me up too. i had to remind myself that her album and james blake's album were 2019

so was deerhunter's, but again, let's not talk about that

oh damn. IGOR is a pretty clear cut #1 for me, and i adore UFOF

i posted this on my discord back in august

i also came real close to writing a THINKPIECE about it in comparison to MBDTF

basically i think it's the best rap album in years don't @ me

rsf's list has a lot of the GvB list on it, which is v cool and hip

also their favorite song of the year (i think?) is mine too

yeah "Not" is the easy pick there I think

I also really, really like the work that Labrinth did on Euphoria. the score was great in general, but "All for Us" and "Mount Everest" were goddamn BANGERS

Not is a great song. I probably need to explore Big Thief further.
