Women's basketball

Very good point. Seems like every year she has 3 of her star players on the far end of the bench watching. This year they are healthy. They have a lot of big time recruits coming in, and they’re pretty much keeping everybody who makes an impact. I think the new facilities definitely have made an impact in recruiting efforts. Jen should absolutely still have her job at this rate. Even if she goes .333 the rest of the way, she still should keep her job. She has brought some energy to that program, which is something they haven’t had in a long time.

Every year that has happened to the team. Nice to see Hoover have a longer time to coach her whole team.

Big fan of the women's team, but a little early to get carried away with accolades. Of the ACC teams they have beaten only GT is any good at all. Duke is a shadow of what it was under its former coach. Let's see if they can manage .500 in conference play, which would be a massive step forward.

Women's team loses today to Louisville at Louisville. 10000 at the game in Louisville. Wow. Decent effort but too many turnovers. Big game Thursday night versus Virginia at Wake. Must win for Wake if they are going to make the NCAA tournament. Conti is really fun to watch.

Agreed. She plays under really good control and has great court vision. Wake played decent today - Louisville is a powerhouse in women's hoops.

I'm REALLY proud of our Lady Deacs! Everything about Louisville's season thus far would suggest they are a legitimate national powerhouse. We played them on the road and played competitively. I'll truly be rooting for these fine ladies against UVA. It would be HUGE for them to make the NCAA's. Any chance Jen Hoover can coach both men's and women's teams. Our men would be MUCH better! Go Deacs!

Wake wins 62-56 over Virginia. 4-2 in the ACC.

Another win for the lady Deacs over UVA as Conti and Raca have great games. The next two will be tough. Supposed to be getting Udoh back soon and she should really help.

Udoh was credited with 1 minute tonight, which lines up with Jen's timeline that she gave me and Les early last week for when they thought she'd be back. But I only saw from the halfway point of the second quarter on and didn't see her, so not sure if that was a live stats screw up or if she only played 1 minute.

She started and played 33 seconds then came out and did not play again. Had a bulky knee brace.

Keep up the great work, ladies. Would love to see them upset State or FSU.

hopefully she didn't reinjure herself and she came out because it just didn't feel quite right yet.

Hoover doing good work with this team it seems. Would love to see a .500 or better league record and an NCAA birth.

If the players stay mostly healthy, this seems like a reasonable goal. It's really difficult to win when the best two or three players are reduced to student-coach roles because of serious injuries.

Here are the ACC Standings. Looks weird to see WF basketball (even its women's) in the top tier:

Louisville 6-0 1.000 17-1 0.944 W9
NC State 5-1 0.833 16-1 0.941 W2
Georgia Tech 5-1 0.833 14-3 0.824 W3
North Carolina 4-2 0.667 13-4 0.765 W1
Wake Forest 4-2 0.667 11-6 0.647 W1
Florida State 4-3 0.571 15-3 0.833 L1
Duke 3-3 0.500 9-8 0.529 W2
Virginia Tech 2-3 0.400 12-4 0.750 L1
Syracuse 2-3 0.400 8-8 0.500 L2
Miami 2-4 0.333 10-7 0.588 L1
Boston College 2-4 0.333 9-8 0.529 L2
Virginia 2-4 0.333 7-10 0.412 L1
Clemson 2-4 0.333 6-11 0.353 W1
Notre Dame 1-5 0.167 6-12 0.333 L4
Pitt 0-5 0.000 3-13 0.188 L9

As far as an NCAA bid goes, WF took some bad losses early in the season (maybe WF had some players out), which may require WF to do a little more than stay just above .500 in the ACC to get an NCAA invite.

BTW, what is going on with ND women's basketball? I thought they were a top 5 program. Muffet on the hot seat?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing? Did they lose every girl that was any good and didn't bring in a good class or something?

Can't speak to recruiting class, but yeah, they lost every starter -- all of them were averaging double figures, which seems crazy -- from last year.

The scoring averages from last year go: 21.8 | 16.7 | 14.7 | 14.4 | 12.8 ... to 3.6 and 3.3, etc.

Playing @ #9 State now on RSN. Down 18-16 after 1st quarter.

Down 31-26 at the half.
