The legendary DeMatha coach has died at 88. He may have been the greatest HS coach of all time. He would try to get every player (including deep bench players) college scholarships and often succeeded at improving the lives of these kids.

RIP Coach

A winner who did it with class. Many of his teams every senior would get a ride to play somewhere. He truly cared for his players and turned out many great and many good. I think his legacy is the good people he helped them to become.

Best HS basketball coach of all time. No question.

Interesting side note is that he got into coaching because it was the entry for teaching history. Incredible, amazing career for a guy who backed into coaching basketball. He started as a baseball coach, then football and basketball, then finally just basketball.

A lot of great coaches started out as teachers. The ability to communicate what you know to another person, and have that person internalize it and use it, is a great skill.

Maryland had a moment of silence before their game tonight. Honored Morgan Wooten, Maryland alum, amd Kobe.
