Clawson is live on twitter right now. No sound (real smooth Wake), Does anyone know what the announcement is about?

He's saying next season is all about 2 things; chewing bubble gum and kicking ass, and he plans to run completely out of bubble gum before the season even starts.

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson: "We're going to be considerably younger on offense. I said 'younger,' not 'worse.'"

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson: "Defensively, I expect us to be a lot better."

Probably start of Spring practice.

Per Les' tweets (link above):

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson: "Sam (Hartman) will go into as the one, but like any other position, we want it to get competitive. Sam will run most of the time with the ones, but we've never gone through a year completely healthy at that position."

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson: "Of my list of concerns, quarterback is not high on the list going into 2020."

Clawson said Jeff Burley had a great offseason, and he's hopeful this is the year he breaks out.

Christian Beal-Smith is back with the team and will practice in the spring, according to Clawson.

Per Conor, Terrance Davis will miss Spring practice as he tweaked his knee. Will be back in May.

That is good news and bad. The bad, obviously, is that he won't get the reps with the rest of the Wake O-line guys. Maybe some potential tackles will have to play guard.

The "good" is that the coaches will have that many more reps to work to find guys who can play all the vacant spots on the line.

He has shown enough individual talent at the D-1 level that his individual skills are there. As long as his knee is better before summer practices start.

Great news about CBS. Depth is a concern at RB.

What is it with transfer getting hurt? At least he'll be back before the season and not miss it like Fox did last year.

Did he mention if they will introduce a 2nd offensive play besides the RPO? It would be really cool if we had just one more.
Only slightly kidding but it would be nice to line up under the center and put in a LB as a fullback and give the RB a running start on short yardage plays.
Might be considered a "trick play" by Clawson's standards but seems like it would be helpful at times.

With the experience difference between Hartman and the backups, is there a need to change offensive philosophy to reduce QB runs
Clawson: “To be very honest with you, a lot of the times we ran the ball with the quarterback last year weren’t designed runs. The ball should have been thrown. There were times where as part of our RPO system, the ball should have come out. The ball got run by the quarterback a much greater percentage of the time than we wanted it to or called for it to be run. One of the things that happened is when we lost two of our starting receivers, understandably there was a lack of confidence to make some of those throws. After we lost Sage (Surratt) and Scotty (Washington), I don’t know if we were as confident making those throws as we should have been. That ended up with us running the quarterback more than we wanted. I don’t think it was the design of the offense, as much as the execution of the offense. If you play quarterback in this offense and you have an opportunity to throw it in the RPO, you have to trust the receivers are going to get open. We struggled with that against Clemson and against Syracuse early. Then guys came to life. Kendall (Hinton) and Donavon made some plays. We didn’t look like that the first half of last year. It was when those two guys went down that the quarterback run became much heavier than we wanted it to be.”

Another offensive set would not demand chosing between run and throw by the QB....

....like run or pitch out...

....or lateral and throw back...

....or flea flicker...

....or hand off to the WR or FL running an orbit....

...or.....or....or....

(All run by Clemson, btw...)

Netflix, can you throw a cig in Clawson's mouth and meme this quote: "The ball should have been thrown."

A lot of interesting uses of “we” and “us” when saying those weren’t designed runs.

He can’t (and doesn’t) just flat out say “Jamie didn’t read the defense” or “Jamie didn’t throw the ball because there was unfamiliarity with the other receivers”. A head coach doesn’t do that, and if he does, he’s going to receive a shit ton of backlash.

I think the only thing he didn't do was call Jamie's name. The criticism was unmistakable.
