Wake Football Spring practice updates

Yeah, if the players didn't just run off for their spring break, you could "quarantine" the team together and keep practicing. Now ... don't think so. Spring ball finito IMO. To bad, I was looking forward to watching Georgia's game and our reports.

In theory, you COULD run the Spring game and just have fans that don't live together sit 4 or 5 feet apart. This is the messaging doctors are suggesting. But that doesn't protect the players after their week away ...

Pretty sure they will cancel the rest of Spring practice. It's a brave new world for the next year/year and a half until they come up with a vaccine.

A vaccine is not a sure thing. Virus - vaccine interactions have three different scenarios.

Vaccine gives long lasting immunity against virus. Measles, polio etc.
Vaccine give immunity for a season, then the virus changes, and the previous vaccine is not effective. Like seasonal flu.
Virus changes so rapidly vaccine development cant keep up. Cold viruses.

It is unknown where Covid19 falls.

The third scenario actually has more to do with the number of viruses and strains that cause the "common cold" which makes creating an effective vaccine impractical and impossible. But that's neither here nor there in regard to football practice.

Based on the ACC's announcement today, there will be no more Spring practices. There will not be a Spring game and players will be limited on workouts when they return. Coaches will be challenged in the Fall, since they likely had things they were planning to install and work on in the Spring that they no longer will be able to do. For Wake, it is even more devastating, since they have to find two new OL-men, build depth in the secondary, and find new punter. Now all of this gets compressed into Fall camp.

Why will the kids be limited on workouts ?

The NCAA will allow Fall camps to open 10 days earlier....if needed.

Although the team would benefit from more Spring practice, this means we should make it to the Fall with only one (Spencer Clapp) significant injury.

Draft Kings released their CFB win totals for 2020. WF is at 5.

Realize that the schedule is tougher this season, but that’s low IMO.

Need to place some money on that action, if we can find it

The bet would be cancelled if 12 regular season games aren’t played

Don’t know if this is a spring practice beard or a quarantine beard but either way Coach is killing it.

^^^^

I’ve been doing the same thing. Been working on the beard for 3 weeks now. Mine looks similar to Clawson’s. A lot more gray on the face than on the head. I expect there’s thousands, maybe millions, of guys doing this now.

That’s a good look for Clawson. Somehow it’s a gray beard that doesn’t make him look old.

After loving us in the past we are one of The Bear's bet against teams this year. From behind E+ paywall:

Wake Forest Demon Deacons under 7 (+145)
You'll be hard-pressed to find many offenses that lost as much production as the Demon Deacons. Gone are QB Jamie Newman (transfer), leading rusher Cade Carney and three of the top four WRs. Dave Clawson has done a great job in Winston Salem, but expecting eight wins -- which is what it would take to beat you -- seems a little out of reach.

Neutral site game vs. Notre Dame is a probable loss, and road games at Florida State and Louisville are loseable. They aren't beating Clemson. So if the favored scenario holds, Wake would have to run the table to post eight wins, meaning it would have to beat Appalachian State, win at Duke, beat Miami, win at NC State and avoid an upset loss somewhere else. This could very easily push on seven, but at plus money, under is worth a play.

Also worth noting how much FPI and SP+ hate us going into this year. SP+ has us 81st in the country which I believe is only better than Syracuse in the ACC.

Interesting unit rankings too of offense 99th and defense 60th -- hard for me to believe the O will be that bad

It's a similarly negative projection for WF in season win totals. WF is listed at 5. IIRC, only BC and Cuse have lower win totals among ACC teams (and that's with two almost sure wins against ODU and Nova). Think a lot of the perception of WF being down is attributable to the loss of Newman to UGA. Hartman will be a lot more productive than the public realizes. With Surratt, Greene, Walker, WF has some weapons as long as the OL isn't dreadful.

Interesting, other places have 5? The 7 number is from Caesars. Pretty big disparity
