Stock Market Crash

How is oil up 19% but USO down 10%? Guess the Russians/Saudi Arabians are kicking our asses?

The point of this program was to basically give 2 months worth of everyone's salary in the country. So that means everyone in the country gets it, rich owners and poor owners don't have to pay their workers' salaries or rent for 2 months. So “rich guy X” stories are gonna get real old real quick

Even so, the point of those stories is the rich guys who could already afford to pay their employees 2 months salaries are getting the money and actual small businesses who can't afford to pay their employees aren't getting the money.

well they just passed a law today so that the actual small businesses will get their money

That's good. I haven't followed any news today. My kids' family owned martial arts dojo/afterschool program/summer camp didn't get any money in the first round. They're planning to open back up on May 4.

Our kids are in one as well. They are working really hard to help their students. Lots of online content and daily zoom lessons available. Putting in a plan to began private zoom lessons and belt testing. Prior to the 1st of the month (just got our 2nd email) they offer 3 options for current families. 1 - charge full price to help them stay afloat and pay workers. Once back to normal they will credit 100 per month until we're paid back. Their belt will be tight awhile but they'll hopefully stay afloat. 2 - pay what you can to help now with a similar pay back plan. 3 - request not to pay anything but remain active with classes etc. They are also waiving all testing fees.

Man. We could swap families and not miss a beat.

Ours is doing a $20/wk virtual membership. We are paying it even though our boys aren’t doing the lessons. No credit though. They are offering afternoon activities starting May 4. No dojo until gyms can open up. We will probably wait until the summer.

Your wife might be disappointed. #stereotypes

Welp

At least the wealthy are getting some help!

America as we know it is finished. Trillions of dollars in more debt accrued while wealthy individuals and corporations commit generational theft through nefarious tax breaks and unregulated stimulus handouts. We are either going to have to return to post WWII tax rates or we are going bust as a country. I could easily see the U.S. during my lifetime resembling second-world nations were the uber rich live in protected neighborhoods with armed guards and the middle class doesn't exist any longer. Wild market swings, currency devaluing, high crime, etc. These last 20-30 years have destroyed our welfare state. Quality of life for all but the top 5-10% is going to start plummeting soon unless we make a dramatic shift towards western socialism.

I really wish I could just pull a Costanza and do the opposite of everything that I want to do.
