Thread: Stock Market Crash

  1. #1601
Certainly the somewhat surprising strength of the market is based on the belief that our government will prioritize economic considerations. But the effectiveness to do so may be overestimated.

And, I suspect, the belief that the pandemic turnaround (treatment, vaccine) will be quicker and easier than I speculate will be the case.

With so much uncertainty, Iím tempted to not get out but to sell some. Iíve never tried to time the market except to put more in after a crash. Now for the first time, Iím considering timing some selling.

Weird time weíre in, seems to me.

The stock market is completely bonkers. It surges on the slightest glimmer of hope. (See the response to the remdesivir results - no change in fatality, only moderately shortened hospital stay.) Powell himself has testified that the market is overvalued and remains risky.

The stock market is stilted dramatically because of electronic trading and hedge funds. Something needs to be done about it as these and other program trading. They create swings that have nothing to do with business value.

^ doesn't matter the Dow is at a record high!

Dow isn't currently at a record high. It's off about 10% from its high earlier this year.

RJ I'm aware, because if it was Trump would be on TV every 5 mins taking credit for it even though it means nothing to most Americans. Its called hyperbole.

Also here's some reading for you:

new jobs report out tomorrow and I read somewhere that over half of working age black people in the United States will be without work

    saw it on Politico: https://www.politico.com/newsletters...pecial-edition

"Fewer than half of black adults are now employed, according to Labor Department data."
