Yeah everyone I talk to off the boards says there's no chance we play Fall sports. The kids most likely won't be back to campus until summer 2021.

So, what the hell do we do? We are going to miss Boogie and Sage Suratts victory lap. We are most likely going to miss Forbes' first season. Just utterly depressing.

What do people do without sports? There are only so many family walks through Reynolda Gardens that one man can take.

For the southeast, the plan I have heard as it stands today (from a reliable source):
Football/fall sports are very much possible. Stadiums may only be allowed to be filled up 15-40% capacity. No visiting fans allowed. Can’t control tailgating. Moreover, the season may start on time as August is projected to be a valley in terms of # of cases.

But things change daily.

It’s May, i’m not sure why anyone would make decisions right now for fall sports which is 3-4 months away.

Well that hasn't been a problem for basketball. . .

Because of summer school enrollment and summer workouts.

We as a country aren’t doing anything that will help pave the way for sports.

The second wave will be starting when the season would normally start. I just can’t see an every man for himself approach in which some programs don’t participate and others put their athletes and staff at risk.

Best case scenario is still moving football to January.

Move football to January and how many top tier guys sit out because the NFL Draft is coming up in April? Why risk injury and forgo draft preparation?

Cal State system canceled in-person fall semester classes for all 23 campuses. San Diego State etc. will be on-line only for the fall.

I expect this to be only the first of many such announcements.

Things change so quickly, really hard to say, but a lot will depend upon how team sports do, if and when they start up in the Summer. If MLB and NBA (and/or NHL), pull off the return of team sports this Summer, with a player safety and testing protocol that works (and is particularly able to deal with a circumstance when a player(s), coach or other team rep tests positive), then, there is a chance for college football to return in the Fall (but football will be much tougher to keep safe than any other sport because of the massive roster size and because close contact is unavoidable in that sport).

Would guess that the NCAA football schools splinter with some playing and others not (red states versus blue states). Hard to see a scenario where a full college football schedule is played. Maybe just conference games, in certain conferences. Also, if there is a second wave in the Fall, as some predict, then we might see a handful of games followed by another shutdown.

Would say the chances of a full season being played with all FBS teams playing 12 games followed by a full bowl season at less than 5%. Would guess some bowl games may start being cancelled soon because many sponsors aren't going to have the discretionary cash to spend and people aren't traveling to go see the Beef O'Brady Bowl. They might as well cancel the Bahamas Bowl right now. The chances of some college football games being played at some point in the Fall at 60%.

Delaying the season to the Winter/Spring would be awful for many reasons. Some of which already listed. If we can't have the season in the fall then just start fresh next fall. It absolutely sucks, but a the logistics of a winter/spring football season wouldn't work.

Multiple reasons:
1) Evidence is beginning to show that heat may prevent the spread of COVID
2) August is supposed to be a valley in number of cases
3) Giving up saturday TV slots in the fall, NFL will take them and potentially never give them back
4) This university makes alot of money on Spring football
5) Other conflicts for the university of having many sports starting all at once.

October was discussed as the latest month to start football (with condensed schedule).

MAC announced it is cancelling several non-revenue sports. Among them are soccer, baseball, softball and field hockey.

If they are not playing non-revenue sports over safety fears, aren’t they tacitly admitting football and basketball, which are full contact, are dangerous as fuck right now, and we don’t give a shit about the safety of the players, but we need the $$$?

Yes. What's your point?

Basically.
Bread and circuses and cash.
