The 2020-21 College Football Thread: Alabama Unleashes Bold Familiar Flavor on CFB !!

Wisconsin-Nebraska this weekend is off -- canceled? postponed? Hard to tell since the B1G went with the no bye week strategy.

The Big 10 decisions just seem so random and poorly thought out:

Early August, the Big 10 is good to go, and they announce a 10 game conference only schedule

A week later they cancel the season, and announce they will play in January/February (in the coldest part of the US)

Over the next few weeks, they see other conferences playing football, but they also see every conference has to cancel/reschedule games because of the virus

The Big 10 then decides to start play in late October, when experts expected COVID cases to rise again, and schedule no bye weeks to allow for schedule adjustments due outbreaks

Also, the conference instituted a bizarre 21-day quarantine rule that exceeds the duration for a quarantine as proposed by the CDC, or any other sports league or other organization that I am aware of.

The pandemic creates issues that are next to impossible to deal with, but the conference's half-ass "we are out... wait, we are kind of in response" was doomed for failure.

not to mention they were lording their moral superiority over other conferences "we actually care about our kids' safety!"

but then they decided they wanted in on the action.

Yet Florida has had 37 positive cases in less than 3 weeks and is back in action baby! It truly does just mean more in the SEC.

Pretty sure Florida postponed two games this month. Not sure what you point might be.

They had 6 more new positive cases announced yesterday, so obviously the outbreak isn't done yet. Yet they're still practicing/playing this week. Mostly that they're just terribly incompetent.

They have enough players who don't have it or who have recoverd to play the game. Wisconsin doesn't even have that.

Speaking of incompetence, see B1G management of this football season.

Haven't heard any updates on Wisconsin, but as of Sunday COVID essentially attacked an entire position group as the starting QB, the backup QB, the QB Coach and the OC all tested positive (there were likely others). Under Big 10 rules, a game will be cancelled if 5% of the "program" tests positive. So, with players and coaches, the program is probably at about 150. So, not hard to see how Wisconsin got to the 7 or 8 threshold that required shutting down the program.

The B1G and the PAC believe they are the leading conferences in college athletics. They are living on past glory and refuse to accept college athletics as it presently exists. Maybe 2020 will be a wake up call, but I doubt it.

Yeah and it’s their adherence to the goddamn Rose Bowl that holds the playoffs hostage any year it’s not a host site.

Huh? By all accounts, Florida would still have way more players/coaches in quarantine than Wisconsin. 25 new positive tests last week, 6 this week.

12 thus far for Wisconsin. At least the B1G is pretending to care about player safety.

Apparently, Nebraska wanted to play a game this weekend even though Wisconsin could not. So, they got Chattanooga to agree to travel to Lincoln, and the Big 10 said: NOPE, no OOC games this year (at least partially because they can't enforce the COVID protocols on random non-Big 10 teams. Nebraska is like the teenage daughter that is constantly fighting with her parents.

Nebraska should be played BYU. BYU may be good, but their schedule is poop. They need some competition to assess where they stand.

Wisconsin doesn't have a quarterback.

And what the hell is the big fucking deal about not allowing teams to schedule OOC games ? The SEC should have done it, but I get that they're trying to keep open dates so they can reschedule games if necessary. The B1G told Nebraska that they can't play an OOC game because one of their own member institutions on their completely inflexible schedule is having a COVID outbreak, while a team from the SOUTH is sitting there perfectly healthy ready to travel to Nebraska to play. So now Nebraska's 9 game schedule is shortened to a measly 8 freaking games, and they lose a home game.
