Important: Joint Statement from ABFM, ABIM & ABP on Dissemination of Misinformation

Dear Dr. xxxxxxxxx

The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), which supports its member state medical licensing boards, has recently issued a statement saying that providing misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine contradicts physicians' ethical and professional responsibilities, and therefore may subject a physician to disciplinary actions, including suspension or revocation of their medical license. We at the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM), the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), and the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) support FSMB's position. We also want all physicians certified by our boards to know that such unethical or unprofessional conduct may prompt their respective board to take action that could put their certification at risk.

Expertise matters, and board certified physicians have demonstrated that they have stayed current in their field. Spreading misinformation or falsehoods to the public during a time of a public health emergency goes against everything our boards and our community of board certified physicians stand for. The evidence that we have safe, effective and widely available vaccines against COVID-19 is overwhelming. We are particularly concerned about physicians who use their authority to denigrate vaccination at a time when vaccines continue to demonstrate excellent effectiveness against severe illness, hospitalization and death.

We all look to board certified physicians to provide outstanding care and guidance; providing misinformation about a lethal disease is unethical, unprofessional and dangerous. In times of medical emergency, the community of expert physicians committed to science and evidence collectively shares a responsibility for giving the public the most accurate and timely health information available, so they can make decisions that work best for themselves and their families.

Yeah, good luck with that.

My money is on Florida being first to declare themselves a sanctuary state from federal vax mandates, with Texas a close 2nd.
 
Also, watch how quickly the anti-vax crowd suddenly sees a need for workers to collectively organize against what they perceive as unfair working conditions...

They should try! Seems like the bigger goal here is to incentivize the private sector to embrace mandates by providing a federal-level blueprint that they can cite as a justification.
 
Incentivize? That's one way to describe it. Why the stick instead of the carrot?

This is going to be awful for small businesses. Why not incentivize them with tax breaks for hitting target % (80, 90, etc...) of vaccinated employees?

Not to mention, the supply chain for tests cannot keep up with throwing tens of millions of people into weekly testing. Not sure how enforcement of this doesn't fall apart.
 
I mean, businesses and governments had a lot of time to do the right thing and didn't. You can't hold adults' hands forever. Especially when they're acting like children. At some point, the state has to act in the best interests of its constituents. Letting fringe extremists (and their media enablers) hold public policy hostage ain't it.

You deal with the particulars later. We've been treading water for a year and a half. Everybody's been too scared of taking a step forward and pissing someone off. Now the standard has been set and public and private sectors will adapt.

Perhaps the Biden Administration can use this as an opportunity to incentivize job creation for domestic manufacturers. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to getting a bunch of people vaccinated and nipping this vaccine skepticism industry bullshit in the bud. Anybody whining about liberty at this point should take a trip down to an ICU to see how that's going.
 
Yeah fuck carrots it’s massive stick time, if you want to be a dumb fuck and not get vaccinated you can be an unemployed unvaccinated dumb fuck.
