Covid-19 - Treatments & Vaccines

If you check their website, one of the things they prominently mention is that their school provides "Medical Freedom from Mandated Vaccines" and declares:

"While these regulations were established to help protect all children, the amount of unknown risks associated with vaccinations will have you seriously second-guessing whether this policy should be upheld.

Rather than helping children’s immune systems, there is a large belief in the United States that the excess of mandatory vaccines is actually damaging them. In fact, in the past 20 years, U.S. statistics prove that children are experiencing doubled rates of Attention Deficit Disorder and learning disabilities, doubled rates of asthma, tripled rates of diabetes, and a rise in autism in every single state at the rate of 600 percent.

A lot of kids are suffering and it is up to us as a Miami international school community to rule out any and all possibilities contributing to the rise in chronic diseases and disabilities for our students. Before we, as a school, mandate anything that could possibly be causing so much harm to our students, studies need to be urged to be conclusive as to whether common mandatory vaccinations lead to various common health disorders. Families and children should have medical freedom. Students should not be forced to endure these immunizations until there are more significant long-term studies and examinations of the various implications and side effects of these drugs...At CA we believe in health freedom."

The school website also says that "we do not impose plexiglass in our school" regarding the pandemic and they have continued to offer athletics and after-school programs during the pandemic. I was amused to see that next to the announcement about not requiring that students be vaccinated, they have a feature called "The Top 5 Strategies for Your Child's Brain Development." Apparently, researching vaccines, pandemics, and medicine isn't one of them.
 
There was a school here that made national news a few years ago for being anti-vax and having an absolutely massive chicken pox outbreak.
 
Anybody can start a private school in Florida and teach whatever nonsense they want and the state will give parents voucher money to send their kids there.
 
Brazil has refused to approve Russian Sputnik vaccine because of lack of safety and quality assurance during production. Brazilian Health officials were denied access to the Russian vaccine manufacturing plant.
 
As expected. The pause in J&J vax was the trigger for a decline in vaccination rate.

 
guy in the office just directed me to a whackadoodle website for his "evidence" on why the vaccines are bad for you... smdh.
 
It's disturbing that you all interact with these people at your jobs. That suggests they're doing things that impact people's lives.

the peak by date administered (in Bier's first tweet) was 4/11 - two days before the J&J pause but after reports were leaking out concerning the blood clots

I have no doubt that the pause is responsible for much of the decline in take rates but seems important to note that fact

Any info on whether there was a similar decline in Europe or the UK after the Astra Zenica pause?

Both were in very different phases of vaccine rollout when the concerns were first raised - AZ was paused in much of the EU March 15-18. At that point the EU had ~5% of its population with a shot. There was a slight dip, but 75-year-olds should not worry one bit about a blood clot issue for child-bearing aged women.

Here, we already had 80% of seniors with one shot, so the vax program was targeting the very group for whom the concerns were raised. (age only; I haven't seen any reporting suggesting the J&J shot has safety concerns for men of any age)
 
Yeah, so in 20 years when all these old people are dead we're going to be at like 45% vaccinated.

Vaccine misinformation, about all kinds of vaccines not just covid, has snared a ton of smart people in our society. The guy I know is very good at his job, well respected, smart, good family man. This shit is insidious and hard to combat.

Most of my wife’s family has decided not to get vaccinated.

Advanced degrees and in some ways fairly intelligent folks.

F the politicization and polarization of every damn thing.
 
If you say so. But presumably well respected, smart, family men are spreading this misinformation. Our society will continue to fail until we get to the point where these people aren’t respected, aren’t considered smart, and their families put them in check.

What makes it harder to combat is that, simultaneous with trying to shout down a movement focusing on the minute statistical probability of a serious side effect from a vaccine, the same media and groups are hyping up and promoting the similar minute statistical probability of getting unjustifiably killed by a cop. From a national macro perspective, neither are statistically relevant. But both movements have gotten credence because of anecdotal social media influence and misinformation. If the goal is to shut off the focus on the margins, then it has to be uniform. The two movements are unrelated but directly tied in the current climate due to their method of promulgation and general level of stupidity within each movement which drastically overshadows whatever valid points they they may actually contain.
