Covid-19 - Treatments & Vaccines

Member of Texas Republican Executive Committee dies from covid, after making countless tweets and social media posts attacking and ridiculing people for masking and getting vaccinated, and attacking doctors and other health professionals working to cure or treat the virus. Said that Texans should just ignore federal "dictates" and recommendations regarding the pandemic. He was only 45, and leaves behind a wife and 5 month old baby. On his Twitter bio he listed himself as a Christian and "Rotund Firebrand", and states "1st Amendment: A Freedom OF Religion, not a Freedom FROM religion...There is no problem for which God is not the answer." Too bad he didn't use his God-given brain to get the covid vaccine.

his flow is pretty good

Our own esteemed NC Lt. Governor, ladies and gentlemen. The applause he gets in this video is a nice touch. Apparently it's OK for politicians to make the vaccine available and even provide information, but god forbid they actually recommend that people get the vaccine. It's going to be something watching him run for Governor in 2024.

Jh can’t punt this one as “Florida man”. This is his NC GOP. I bet he even helps campaign for this joke.

Florida gets hit from all sides because of their dumb as shit governor. Not just the rules that make it easier for covid to spread, like anti-masks but his unwillingness to admit that things have gotten out of hand means that there’s no declared emergency which means expensive medical supplies and shortages.

Careful. Insulting DeSantis like that may leave Angus with no choice but to leap to defend his man crush's honor. HOW DARE YOU!

That's all true, but 58.8% of Floridians have had at least one shot, compared to 47.2% of Georgians, and 51.8% of North Carolinians.

And everyone else in Florida is just going to catch Covid by the end of next week.

DeSantis set another record!
https://www.miamiherald.com/news/coronavirus/article253312323.html

Florida reported a record 22,783 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, its highest single-day case count since the pandemic began last year as the state continues record-breaking hospitalizations for the fifth straight day in a row.
The number of cases for Thursday reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was 1,100 more than Florida’s single-day case count record. On July 31, Florida reported a then-record of 21,683 new COVID cases for the previous day.

There were 13,427 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, breaking the state’s hospitalization record for the fifth day in a row, according to data from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services as of 1:15 p.m. Friday. A total of 254 out of 260 hospitals reported.
About 2,680 people were in intensive care, a little over 42% of the state’s ICU hospital beds from 260 hospitals reporting.

DeSantis is exercising his freedom to do something about it or not. Wouldn’t want to have government overreach. Now, if you’ll excuse him, he needs to send some more cops to the border in Texas.

It's hard to imagine how poorly this is being managed when you set records for infections and hospitalizations with a back drop of more than 50% of your population vaccinated and another percent previously infected. That's an amazing shit show

This is more surreal to me than the initial stages of the pandemic. We new something similar to this was inevitable, so I could easily understand when it happened. Its hard for me to wrap my head around this still being a thing a year and half later with effective vaccines available. With very few exceptional situations, there is no reason for this to be a thing anymore inf not for idiots and assholes.

On the plus side, if we’re still kicking as a nation in 2030, Florida will probably have less electoral votes. And I think we can all agree that is a good thing.

Sorry to make light of a terrible situation but at this point it would be a net positive if we lost a few million COVID deniers from our voting rolls.

Apparently she left only temporarily. During a school board recess she and other protestors returned and "overthrew" the school board and protested the masking mandate passed in the morning. Although their coup had no legal status, they apparently had lots of fun waving signs saying things like "the fake vaccine is the plandemic." An attorney working for the school board stated that "I know they're very passionate and care about what they were here to speak about, but what they did has no authority under the law."

And another right-wing radio talk show host has passed from covid after spreading anti-mask, anti-vaxx messages on social media. And he wasn't just skeptical of Fauci, he said he wanted him to be arrested. Curious at how many of these radio hosts all support getting vaccinated after they get sick.
