Dem VP - who ya' got

Biden has talked about raising corporate tax rate from 21% current to 28%. It was 35% but dropped by trump in 2017

Individual tax rates increased under carter, reagan, ghwbush, clinton. Taxes decreased by gwbush and cuts were extended by obama. Then trump dropped them further. So basically each president has made changes.

The pubs have done a good job with messaging but usually the economy actually runs better with higher individual rates.

Higher rates would help with income inequality which is a huge issue now. The rich should be paying more and the middle and lower class less so they would have more disposable income to buy stuff and actually expand the economy. There's only so much the rich can buy so they use the excess to invest which doesn't help anybody but themselves.

There are still people who believe they are fiscally conservative but socially liberal?

And that’s my concern. On every issue Bake mentions, I prefer Biden over the narcissistic, amoral, unethical, dishonest, racist asshole currently occupying the White House. It’s just that I wish we had a better choice with whom to replace him than Biden. But he’s now our only option.

Given that we don’t have any other pres choices, I would like to see Biden choose Klob as his VP running mate. Not so much because she would help him carry a state Dems need, but because I think she would be a great Pres when the time comes.

Klobuchar withdrew from the VP race several weeks ago. So she won't be the pick.

The thing that gets me about the fiscally conservative, socially liberal folks is that the fiscal conservatism nearly always trumps the socially liberal part.

My ungracious reading of that is generally, "I'm all for people to have rights unless it costs me something."

I haven't seen many people say - "I value free market capitalism, lowering the deficit and national debt, and market-based solutions, but that needs to take a backseat because people are hurting."

I'm sure there are some.

Its the same as the Trump vs Biden doesn't matter to me because I will make money either way attitude, often expressed by the older crowd. Like you don't give a shit about social issues if that's your attitude, coming from a place of privileged where great it doesn't matter to you but how about thinking beyond your small sphere. How will the climate do? Healthcare? Those issues actually have a tangible outcome to people so think of that beyond I can make some money, live my life and die. How about make the same or a little less amount of money and try to leave the world a better place after you die.

Yes there are.

I believe in less government not more. I believe that the federal government enables more people than they help. I believe that throwing money at problems does not fix them. I believe that most everything the federal government runs and maintains is flawed and in better hands by the states and private enterprise. I believe in sound and responsible fiscal management who's goal should be a balanced budget. I believe free enterprise and not income equality that destroys the human initiative. Though flawed, I believe in capitalism, not socialism and support a balanced and fair tax system.
I believe in a strong military but eliminating waste in all our spending. I believe in six year term limits for our elected officials at all levels.

I believe in rights for all. I believe you should not be judged, discriminated against or prevented from any employment or expression because you are any race, religion, sex, or preference.
I believe in freedom of choice in all matters except those that can be harmful to others. I believe in assisting the poor and needy. I believe anyone who choses should be entitled to affordable healthcare services.

I could go on on both points but for now, that is best I can describe, "Fiscal conservative, Social liberal".

Are all those boxes weighted equally? Which ones matter the most/least?

Which of those boxes does Trump check? I mean really check, not his lying lip service from a quickly forgotten 2016 campaign promise.

Who exactly is the federal government enabling? Also even if they were enabling people why does it even matter to someone.

how do we assist the poor and needy by having less government? bootstraps? 2-parent households?

I bolded above, generously in some cases, which of those Trump can give you.

The rest he doesn’t, and often promotes policy in direct opposition to your stated belief.

I’m sure if you honesty appraised the above for both Trump and Biden you’d have more bolded on the Biden side. Just comes down to your weighting. So maybe those two bolded items are what’s most important to you.

By the way, you might consider Michael Lewis’ “The Fifth Risk” which touches on the deep thankless expertise needed to manage the parts of government we all take for granted.

Not to mention the policies that Trump gives you to address the bold are often needlessly cruel and punitive. So is it even satisfying your belief if it’s implemented the way he does it?

Let's apply this to today's 3 major issues:

coronavirus/pandemic - Your small government leave it to the states and private enterprise method was applied here. fucking disaster and people died and suffered unnecessarily. Nations with coherent federal response saved lives and money.

racism and police brutality - your austerity method has left state and local governments without adequate resources for mental health, drug rehabilitation, family services - leaving often racist and unqualified police to take up these activities. Your free enterprise not income inequality has created generational poverty and a dearth of upward mobility that leads to desperation. I appreciate your anti-discrimination but there is a financial element to resolving these issues that is achieved through federal spending and progressive taxation, as well as the availability of capital that government can facilitate.

healthcare - you say vaguely you believe in "affordable" healthcare for all. If you don;t have a job, and don't have any money, affordable means $0. Is that what you support?

Some of those points are just awful stereotypes. Like come on, “income equality?” “Throwing money at problems?” In the real world no one advocates anything like this.

“Strong military” Ok great has anyone suggested we should have a weak military? What is the point of saying this?

Fortunately, there are options to addressing problems collectively apart from cartoonishly either throwing money at them or taking money away from them.
