I’m not in the Wes Miller camp. He has no NCAA tournament wins. He won an NIT tourney game in 2019 and won a CBI tourney game in 2016. He lost in the second round of both of those respective tournaments. By my count Miller is 0-3 versus Danny Manning when their teams met on the court. These are not exactly ACC head coaching resume building stats. If Miller is the choice, it should be because several have turned down the opportunity.

Big names that need a job or may have schools that let them enter talks:

John Beilein
Thad Matta
McCaffery – Iowa
Turgeon – Maryland
Miller – Indiana

1. Thad Matta. Best coach available and the same age as Clawson. Chad Chatlos of Ventura Partners is the search firm. He has ties to Matta. This may not be a coincidence. May not be affordable or interested in a rebuild.

2. John Beilein. Second to Matta due to age. May not be affordable or interested in a rebuild.

3. Steve Forbes. Best of the rest. Strongest resume. Outgoing down to earth personality. Affordable. This would be his only chance to prove he is a top shelf coach. Nobody will out work him. He has demonstrated he can recruit at any level. A .772 winning percentage as a head coach speaks for itself.

4. Everyone else. Unless Currie has personal reasons for not hiring Forbes, he never gets to four.

Keep in mind that the one time transfer rule will likely be passed next month. The NBA is developing a minor league that will diminish one and done. College basketball has and will continue to change dramatically.

I'm right here as well.

Forbes please

Other candidates being mentioned by press:

Randolph Childress, Wake Forest. Reported that he is lobbying for the job. Speculate/expect Childress to be interviewed by Currie as he is a Wake Forest legend.

LeVelle Moton, North Carolina Central. Oversaw program's transition to Division I. Well established in MEAC.

Russell Turner, Cal Irvine. Former assistant under Dave Odom.

Ritchie McKay, Liberty. Winning career record of 295-216.

Bob Richey, Furman. No NCAA tournament appearances.

Where in the press has Randolph Childress been mentioned as a candidate?

Shit. We might as well hire that Division II guy that the Duke Basketball Report keeps pushing for if those guys are viable.
Fuck that.

Dayton loses the soul of their squad this offseason. Any chance Grant wants to make a move while he is “hot”?

Grant is a good guy and good coach but would be a really bad choice for Wake at this time. I'm close to the Bama bball program. Anthony has very little personality and is not good at all at promoting a program. Simply not going to do that. Given our dire need for some personality and promotion of the program, Anthony would be a very bad voice for Wake, although a good choice for other programs.

Wake Forest is not hiring Beilein, Marta, or the current head coaches at P5 schools. There’s no need to live in some dream land.

You know how to never get a date with a supermodel? By never asking one out. Shoot your best shot, don't just settle for a wildebeest because it's easy.

That’s cool. You’re not wrong brother. I think either Forbes or Miller will make excellent ACC level coaches. P5 coaches don’t tend to move down to programs who are totally in the dumps like we are. We are in a fucking wasteland.
