You realize that people aren't asking for your default position to be "we need to compromise," just that when you clearly are not going to get 100% of every minute detail you want on every policy goal, you still come to the table and negotiate wiggle room on both sides. Also willingness to compromise from the other side is itself a sign of respect in that they are acknowledging that your side makes valid points and that moving closer toward your positions is a worthy effort. All of your hangups are you problems, not others' problems.
