Official 2020 DNC Thread - VP Kamala; speakers announced

This is really well said. Many ideologues are so full of hubris and purity that just cant accept something that is better unless is perfectly fits their narrative. Happens every day on the business world and those that embrace the approach tend to excel as leaders and those that don't well, they eventually crash and burn.

Health policy is one area that a compromise could actually work quite well (my thinking has evolved on this quite a bit over the past 8 years). The issue is both the hard left and the hard right think ACA is terribly flawed. But, gasp., imagine a world where a few things are modified that actually drives us to affordable (to the consumer) universal coverage? The issue is the Rs see the ACA as socialism and unless private insurers are eliminated lefty Ds go bonkers. So we are stuck with only a slightly better system than we had in 2014. Thanks hubris.

"Idealogues", "Hubris", "Purity", - all vague and condescending insults from people who can't confront very real and specific harms with spreadsheets and powerpoint presentations. You'd do well to remember that for all your bloodless academic analysis, there are people getting paid 13.50 an hour 8 hours a day to tell insurance customers that their procedure isnt covered or that the heart medicine keeping them alive will cost hundreds of dollars a month next year. To cry on the phone with people facing bankruptcy. Go condescend to them.

It’s macro problems vs micro problems dude. I face the same shit every day dude. I send people out of the hospital who aren’t going to get the follow up care they need, have shitty or no home situations and will likely bounce back to the hospital in a month or two. I try to do my best for them, because I’m working on a micro level. And i vote for politicians who work on a macro level who try to get the best policies passed that will help those people. Getting something passed that will help 60-80% of the people i see is way better than drawing a line in the sand and refusing to pass anything because it’s not helping 100% of them.

Theres noone getting something passed here, no line here, no sand here - it's some people getting outraged, and other people calling those people stupid. I'd rather be perpetually outraged at capitalism than to accept the suffering it causes.

Oh crap. I forgot to highlight the moral high ground idealogues on the left and right stake out with such impunity.

These are all issues I work to address every single day, just not in an manner that you deem acceptable. FWW, I actually used both powerpoint and excel to make the case for us to stay offering ACA plans when no one else did, despite losing $400M.

Thanks for making my point.

Amen. Well said. Get to 80%. Then 85%. Then 90%. And so on.

Its interesting that some of the issues you highlight are actually being partially addressed by managed medicaid and even Part C plans. I also think changing how we pay for HC will help remedy this but we are still in the early phases of this work.

I'm so appreciative of all the sacrifices that your health insurance company has made. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

you can't see it, but i'm doing the sarcastic jerking off motion

Great post, Goon.

I’m not sure if MDMH simply has ideas and doesn’t want to compromise or if he’s simply repulsed by people who don’t share his beliefs.

Big problems get solved by people coming together and sharing their ideas to turn their ideas into better ideas. The NBA bubble is one of the best executed big ideas I’ve seen to address COVID-19. I’m sure that wasn’t just the result of Adam Silver giving his ideas and telling everyone to suck it. A lot of smart professional people got together and came up with a plan and executed it.

That’s what I want from politicians.

TBF the NBA just copied the MLS bubble taking place at the sand complex. And the NWSL bubble came before both.

As to the other 75 most recent posts, I don’t really believe that Biden is going to do anything to improve our nation long term. He is best bros with the corporate welfare leeches that are draining our nation dry. But I will show up to the polls in a hazmat suit if I have to because he’s not Trump. I would also like to volunteer to transport people on Election Day if possible in our COVID existence.

But come February I reserve the right to call Biden a corporate fluffer and to push for Kathy Manning to get primary’d in 22 when she inevitably proves to be an shill of the oligarchy.

Pretty sure the NBA announced their bubble before MLS. The NBA first started talking about the bubble a few weeks after suspending the season, before some states had even issued stay at home orders.

But whatever. The point is they were proactive. If a comparable situation is our political leaders copying an idea that works from another country, that’s fine.

What has changed your mind over the last eight years?

Sucks that the DNC is going up against the NBA Playoffs.

Talk about sentences that could only exist during COVID.

That's an easy decision - NBA playoffs. How many political speeches can a person watch? I may tune in for Biden and Harris just to make sure they're speaking English, but that's about it. And someone please tell Biden to stick to the teleprompter.

Its not like the speeches won't be online.
Kamala really nailed her speech!

Sure. But it will hurt some causal viewership.
