Hugh Downs has died. He was 99.

Washington Post Obit:

He was a mainstay of broadcast TV for half a century before retiring in 1999. He was on 20/20, the Today Show and the Tonight Show. He was also host of the game show "Concentration."

He had a strong role in bringing Barbara Walters to prominence on TV, both on the Today Show and 20/20.

Condolences to all his friends and family.

RIP, Hugh.

I think for a long time Hugh Downs had more hours on TV than anyone in history.

He did it all and was well loved.

RIP Hugh...

Catamount, he was a giant in TV and TV news. We need more Hugh Downs today.

I'm old enough to remember when Hugh Downs was on TV. Always thought he was a nothing burger. Carl Reiner who died earlier this week was a rare talent; Hugh Downs seemed like just another guy on TV.

TBH, when I saw the title "Hugh Downs", my first thought was "what coworker did he diddle, or racist comment did he make 40 years ago"? Good to read that he only died.
